The Story:

This book is a slow burn and Valdor is not the the protagonist. He’s at the center of the plot, but there are only a few scenes from his viewpoint. That could be disappointing to some people. But we have two of the best female characters in the Horus Heresy one of which is the protagonist. She has so much depth. Plus we get awesome insights into the beginning of the empire. This is the first time the Thunderwarriors are at the center of a story. Plus we get lots of hints at the development of the space marines. Not as much action, as other Warhammer books, which is a plus to me. But it’s never boring, I almost read it in one sitting. Awesome worldbuilding and characters, clear recommendation.

It is a bit of a disappointment that a novel titeld Valdor doesn't have much Valdor in it. If you are interested in how excatly the thunder warriors were ended and how the Space Marine and Primachrs were created then its worth a listen.

Gotta say tough not my favorite voice actor.

The reviews in here are solit and for a good reason. I think the title is the biggest problem here. People come to hear more about Valdor but they actually get "history" lessons more than a character driven story. i personally loved the way the early imperium was portrayed in this book. Many of it's shortcomings of later times start right here. For people who like to muse over the imperium and 30k/40k in a more philosophical fashion, i recommend it. if you are searching for character / action driven stories, look elsewhere.

Super Warhammer 30k Story. Würde mich aber freuen, wenn es auf Deutsch erscheint. Ansonsten eine sehr gute Geschichte.

interesting to delve into the beginnings, with a few seltenes here and there to spin the backstory.

Terrible storytelling, you have like 5 or so different storylines and some time jumps I think so. So I couldn’t follow the big story properly. Sometimes valdor thoughts sounds like that a AI wrote it, it sounds hilarious, sadly. I’m a huge warhammer fan but this book doesn’t honour the founding of the empire and you learn barely anything new from valdor.

Can’t recommend this book!

Bad storytelling

Despite being called Valdor, the man himself doesn't feature much and the novel focuses on characters who's viewpoint has not been used before or since. Not what I was hoping to find, since Valdors character doesn't really received any further development.

This novel merely does the job of actually spelling out parts of the backstory that were merely mentioned in passing in other works and whilst it can be interesting to find out how they played out exactly, I myself do not find the experience greatly enriching.

I think its a rather boring audiobook. Valdor is not the main actor. He is not very interesting nor is his development within the novel or in the background described.

The voice actor is not to blame. He does a decent job.
