They'll earn enough money to live comfortably for years...if they survive the long trip through war-torn interstellar space without endangering any of the fragile alliances that keep the galaxy peaceful. Cute story, entertaining
Nothing really new, but put together well, a few nice twists and some nicely placed partakes to our world. I felt well entertained.

Fun story, great characters and well executed
I completely enjoyed this book, and was pleasantly surprised many times throughout the narrative.

Wunderbar!
Ich hatte mich schon beim Lesen des Buches auf Deutsch in die Geschichte und ihre Charaktere verliebt. Eine liebevoll und warmherzig geschriebene kleine Space Opera mit Tiefgang und philosophischem Anstrich. Ein sanfter Humor hat mich immer wieder zum Schmunzeln oder Lachen gebracht. Dieses englischsprachige Hörbuch hat mich dann noch mehr begeistert, weil die Sprecherin den Charakteren so viel Leben verleiht, dass es einfach ein Genuss ist!

Refreshingly new, light and emotional
A good story, lovely characters and a good hand in building a slightly mad universe.
Everything good SF needs, plus a charming, female touch.
Second book is already purchased and downloaded.

Sympathische und abwechslungsreiche Space-Odyssee
Hier eine kurz Rezension aus Sicht eines deutschen Hörers und SciFi-Liebhabers.
Ich habe eine Zeit lang überlegt, ob ich mir die englische Lausch-Version oder die deutsche Buchversion gönne. Generell höre ich sehr gern englische Podcast & Co. Bei SciFi-lastigen Büchern mit sehr kreativen physikalischen Ansätzen und Kunstwörtern kann man jedoch erfahrungsgemäß schon mal den Faden verlieren.
Hier halten sich die Techie-Begriffe ziemlich in Grenzen und ich konnte kann fast immer folgen, auch wenn ein Notizheft oder Booklet mit den verschiedenen Alien-Rassen für den Einstieg eine geniale Sache wäre, aber dafür kann das Buch ja nix.
Die Geschichte der Wurmloch-Crew ist wie schon in den meisten anderen Rezensionen zu lesen wirklich kreativ und mit vielen ironischen Momenten versehen, manch einen mag es an Firefly erinnern.
Die Sprecherin macht außerdem einen tollen Job, die stimmlichen Varianten der Crew sind zwar teils schrill, passen jedoch gut zum jeweiligen Charakter.
Lange Rede kurzer Sinn, wer nicht auf eine deutsche Hörbuchversion, die es hoffentlich bald gibt, warten möchte, ist hier gut aufgehoben...

Perfect 10/10
This audiobook is fantastic. The story is wonderful, engaging, a character study and you learn to love each and every one of the characters. A really nice read. But the performance is what makes it. The narrator must be one of the most talented ones I've ever listened to, the way she emotes makes eacb character stand out, not just in voice but in inflection, tension, everything. I highly recommend this read to anyone interested in sci-fi

amazing narrator, good story
I´m not that much into SciFi but really enjoyed this book. ("Read" it for my bookclub ). Good story - even though I enjoyed the first half of the book more than the second one . Great characters - I read up on Becky Chambers and wasn´t surprised that she has experience with theatre , as her characters are so vivid and relatable. Wikipedia writes "She is known for her imaginative world-building and character-driven stories." I can totally second that.
What made me enjoy the book even more is the amazing narrator. She does such a great job ! I often struggle with female narrators (in case they use too much air in the voice or there´s not enough bass / mass ) - but I will look out for more audiobooks narrated by Patricia Rodriguez for sure.

An absolute GEM! True perfection!
I'm a die hard sci fi fan. And I'm bored with what science fiction has to offer these days.
That said, I was beyond delighted when I started this wonderful story that does ev-er-y-thing right.
Gosh, I have to restrain myself from not spelling out everything in capital letters.
From the heartfelt, warm, interesting, diverse, real, funny characters, who are no heroes but everyday people, to the stories that always leave you with an emotional beat, that give you something, to the truly unique experience of getting *personal* science fiction that is no off the mill military world.
The aliens are fascinating, the science feels real, and I want to spent as much time with this crew as possible. THANK you for writing the best novel I've come across in many many years, Becky Chambers.
And as if that's not enough, this audiobook is voiced to perfection by Patricia Rodriguez who wraps it all in a warm blanket, who impersonates all the characters with grace and wit and emotional depth.
An absolute and utter joy.
I can only hope that this was the first in a long line of adventures.
Needless to say, I'm on board!

Overall good :)
Its a bit slow, some parts feel a bit slow.
Awesome characters, they feel rly alive. Lots of diverse species with unhuman acting etc. Enjoyed it!
