    Inhaltsangabe

Adrian Tchaikovksy's critically acclaimed stand-alone novel Children of Time is the epic story of humanity's battle for survival on a terraformed planet.

Who will inherit this new Earth?

The last remnants of the human race left a dying Earth, desperate to find a new home among the stars. Following in the footsteps of their ancestors, they discover the greatest treasure of the past age - a world terraformed and prepared for human life.

But all is not right in this new Eden. In the long years since the planet was abandoned, the work of its architects has borne disastrous fruit. The planet is not waiting for them pristine and unoccupied. New masters have turned it from a refuge into mankind's worst nightmare.

Now two civilizations are on a collision course, both testing the boundaries of what they will do to survive. As the fate of humanity hangs in the balance, who are the true heirs of this new Earth?

" Children of Time is a joy from start to finish. Entertaining, smart, surprising and unexpectedly human." (Patrick Ness)

    Conceptually very interesting

    "Story"
There are a whole range of really interesting concepts and ideas in this this book. This makes the story quite unique and gives you plenty to think about.

    "Writing Style"
In many ways this is refreshingly different. No classic story arch, barely any clichée. But the story is spread out over quite a long time and characters, so I couldn't really bond with any of them. About half the chapters are written like lab book entries (not really, but at least really detached and observing).

    "Narrator"
I think I would have chosen a male speaker - partly for just personal preference, partly because most main characters (that actually have a spoken language) are male. Anyways, I think Mel Hudson does a quite good job -- the sample provided is quite indicative.

One of the best SciFi I have read in a long time!

On par with the Hyperion Cantus. Amazingly mind-boggling. A whole new world. 1 2 3

    maybe better when reading

As an audio book sometimes very hard to follow. can't exactly tell if it because of a confusing interwoven storyline. or because of the voice and manner. still happy that I listened till the unexpected ending.

    Gute Ideen

    Interessante Geschichte. Spannender Plot twists.
Teilweise viele Wiederholungen was es an Stellen langatmig macht.
    Manchmal etwas vorhersehbar.

Dennoch ein tolles Buch und empfehlenswert fuer Fans von ausgefallenen Science Ficition.

    Difficult to listen to

Though somewhat complex the story is quite interesting. Unfortunately Mel Hudson applies the same speaking tempo, the same rhythm and the same sing sang to nearly all sentences. Little variation in modulation and speed. That makes it very difficult to follow the story. A shame.

    Great concept, meh execution

As much as I loved the concept and premisse of the story, I disliked some of the concepts.
Without getting too deep into spoilers, a lot of the story deals with the passage of time and how it is percieved differently from differwnt perspectives.
As interesting as that may sound it brings a problem with it. It is hard to get attached to characters when suddenly a hundred years pass and almost everyone you "knew" is no longer alive.
Some of the perspectives are also not the most engaging or deal with sci-fi topics. You'll know what I mean when you read the book.

Not what i expected - in a good way

This book has a lot i like in science fiction.
Postapocalyptic, exploring of interesting new concepts and ultimately the exploration of humanity, well not russian literature deep but a little bit at least.
The other 'aliens' (don't want to spoil) are neither monsters nor perfect creatures like elves in fantasy, it's perfect.
The ending is maybe a little bit too good to be true. But as long as.... No, no spoilers..... 🙄
