Über diesen Titel
2018 Locus Award, Best Science Fiction Novel
Our universe is ruled by physics, and faster-than-light travel is not possible - until the discovery of The Flow, an extradimensional field we can access at certain points in space-time that transports us to other worlds, around other stars.
Humanity flows away from Earth, into space, and in time forgets our home world and creates a new empire, the Interdependency, whose ethos requires that no one human outpost can survive without the others. It's a hedge against interstellar war - and a system of control for the rulers of the empire.
The Flow is eternal - but it is not static. Just as a river changes course, The Flow changes as well, cutting off worlds from the rest of humanity. When it's discovered that The Flow is moving, possibly cutting off all human worlds from faster-than-light travel forever, three individuals - a scientist, a starship captain, and the empress of the Interdependency - are in a race against time to discover what, if anything, can be salvaged from an interstellar empire on the brink of collapse.

"Fans of Game of Thrones and Dune will enjoy this bawdy, brutal, and brilliant political adventure." (Booklist)
"Scalzi has constructed a thrilling novel so in tune with the flow of politics that it would feel relevant at almost any time." (Entertainment Weekly)
"Political plotting, plenty of snark, puzzle-solving, and a healthy dose of action…Scalzi continues to be almost insufferably good at his brand of fun but think-y sci-fi adventure." (Kirkus Reviews)
Good stuff!

Forget lightspeed: in this universe, shouting at people to solve a Problem actually works!

interesting story line

This story has a very nice sci fi touch, without getting to technical and I like that it breaks with the traditional sci fi right at the beginning.
The characters are non-standard, and I was very curious how all these people will fit into the story and how they will develop.
I read somewhere that this story has a "game of thrones"-feel and I can't deny it, although I think every book, that has houses, guilds, political intrigues and war fit into "GoT"-esque.
In the end it didn't remind me of GoT or "Dune" and I definitly want to know more about this specific universe and its unique problems.
John Scalzi? Wil Wheaton? Audiobook at its best!

The pace of the progression of the story is continuous and fast giving you enough space for your imagination without getting lost in too many detailed descriptions.
The world described in the book is believable and I didn’t experience irritating logical errors, which is a rare feat among sci-fi and fantasy authors.
People, who are easily offended by a lot of swearing, probably shouldn’t buy the book though, because especially one of the characters uses the f-word in almost any sentence.
Sooo. If you like The Commonwealth universe by Peter Hamilton, you probably will be quite happy with the Interdependency narrative. If you don’t, because of too much detail and slow progress, you‘ll still probably like it.
Great story with Wheaton as a surprisingly good narrator
