Über diesen Titel

All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels.

All Systems Red tackles questions of the ethics of sentient robotics. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

In a corporate-dominated spacefaring future, planetary missions must be approved and supplied by the Company. Exploratory teams are accompanied by Company-supplied security androids, for their own safety.

But in a society where contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder, safety isn't a primary concern.

On a distant planet, a team of scientists are conducting surface tests, shadowed by their Company-supplied 'droid - a self-aware SecUnit that has hacked its own governor module, and refers to itself (though never out loud) as "Murderbot."

Scornful of humans, all it really wants is to be left alone long enough to figure out who it is. But when a neighboring mission goes dark, it's up to the scientists and their Murderbot to get to the truth.

I loved it. This is science fiction at its most poignant and inventive. As sad as it is beautiful, it feels like an indie gem you were always glad you found and then spend all your time trying to get your nerd mates to read it too!

surprise gem

..so I won't comment on the story and only on the speaker. I am no native English speaker and I could follow the clear voice very good without having to go back to hear again. Something was a bit annoying though. When the speaker read the women's voices (especially discernible with Dr. Mensah), they were all so dulcet, so soft spoken, and since this wasn't the speaker's normal voice and obviously wasn't easy to do, the woman all spoke noticeable slower as a result. This was a bit of an immersion breaker for me. As a woman myself, i really don't need these slow dulcet women's voices, it is so unnecessary.

We love murderbot..

it should be thought of a machine, but the SecUnit 'murderbot' is in many aspects more human than some humans.

for now I am listening to it a second time, because I missed the main character so much, when the book was over ..

I had suuch a good time with this book! The humor, the world, the way the story kept me on my feet. Now that it’s for free on audible it’s basically a must-listen if you like sci-fi!
