All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels.

All Systems Red tackles questions of the ethics of sentient robotics. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

In a corporate-dominated spacefaring future, planetary missions must be approved and supplied by the Company. Exploratory teams are accompanied by Company-supplied security androids, for their own safety.

But in a society where contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder, safety isn't a primary concern.

On a distant planet, a team of scientists are conducting surface tests, shadowed by their Company-supplied 'droid - a self-aware SecUnit that has hacked its own governor module, and refers to itself (though never out loud) as "Murderbot."

Scornful of humans, all it really wants is to be left alone long enough to figure out who it is. But when a neighboring mission goes dark, it's up to the scientists and their Murderbot to get to the truth.

An sich kein schlechtes Buch. Wenn man alle 4 Teile in ein Buch zusammen fassen würde, sichersich sogar ein gutes Buch. Aber 4 Kapitel (!) eines Buches als 4 einzelne Bücher zu verkaufen ist schlicht nicht ok. Das ist kein ganzes Guthaben Wert!

One of the most interesting stories about artificial humans, and a very relatable one at that as the first person narrator. And Kevin Free does the perfect job of bringing this story to life, with the right amount of sarcasm and emotion (remember that the narrator isn't really human, as much as we want it to be like it.)

I once heard someone say that part one of this series makes you want to know more about this universe and so you keep reading (listening) and I think I feel the same way.

The first Murderbot novella was quiet (at least for me) and almost unexciting. I liked the first-person perspective, because all of Murderbot’s thoughts and inner processes were what made this (audio) book for me. It was human, then simply pragmatic, then overwhelmed and completely unique.
For me, not much has to happen in a book when a character really grabs me, and that’s what happened here. I’m super excited to see what else awaits me <3

Ich habe mal gehört, wie jemand sagte, das Teil eins dieser Reihe dafür sorgt, dass man mehr über dieses Universum erfahren möchte und deshalb weiterliest (hört) und ich glaube, mir geht es genauso.
Die erste Novelle rund um Murderbot war ruhig (jedenfalls für mich) und fast schon unaufgeregt. Ich mochte die Ich-Perspektive, denn all die Gedanken und inneren Abläufe von Murderbot waren das, was dieses (Hör-)Buch für mich ausgemacht haben. Es war menschlich, dann wieder einfach nur pragmatisch, dann überfordert und ganz und gar eigen.
Für mich muss in einem Buch nicht viel passieren, wenn mich ein Charakter so richtig abholt und das ist hier passiert. Ich bin mega gespannt, was mich noch so erwartet <3

it's a really interesting story, even though a bit confusing at the start. but I quickly started to love "murderbot". the ending is quite sad in my opinion.
