    Selected as one of Audible's best audiobooks of 2021

    Jason wakes up in a mysterious world of magic and monsters.

    It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil.

    He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. He’s going to need courage, he’s going to need wit, and he’s going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he’s going to need pants.

    After cementing itself as one of the best-rated serial novels on Royal Road with an astonishing 13 million views, He Who Fights with Monsters is now brought to you in professionally formatted audio.

    Yes

    I like this approach to LitRPG very much and I'm looking forward to the next part. This story manages to circumvent many problems and clichés other stories from the same genre have.
    Examples:
    1. The protagonist finds a potential relationship after half the book (around 15 hours), everything before is platonic;
    2. The ranking system is implemented in a way that allows for weaker ppl to have chance against stronger ppl without making the ranks wholly irrelevant;
    3. Political discussions don't feel like the author preaching to the reader/listener;
    4. The story manages a believeable growth of the protagonist;
    5. Most characters are believeable with their own motivations for their actions

    Impressive! Not only for this genre.

    This is a great surprise.
    I listen to a lot of LitRPG for easy entertainment. While I really like that, I'm well aware that no higher level of literature is to be expected.

    This one is a bit different.
    Here a well aducated humanistic influenced atheist with socialist ideals and a background in political science is set into a feudalistic fantasy world.
    I really enjoyed listening the story of an intelligent protagonist (saying intelligent stuff and doing clever things, not an author telling you how incredibly clever this guy is...). And it is really funny!
    I had to laugh out loud 4 times. And when the Banana Man was referred to, the author broke me.

    Please keep up with this story and with this great style!

    Interesting but incredible bad written

    Interesting story but i never heard so many "Jason said", ... "Sarah said", ... "Jaison said". Litterally every 30s.

    Take this with a grain of salt...

    ... because after about 25% I couldn't listen anymore to the rather primitive language. The story is boring and the game mechanics are such that I wouldn't like to play. Sorry, but there are much better options in this genre.

    Great storytelling, intriguing plots, hilarious dialogue

    This book stands apart from other LitRPG novels.
    For one, we don’t accompany an overpowered main character on his journey to vanquishing al his foes, but instead see how he deals with the arising situation using intrigue, cunning and manipulation.
    The other part is, that the main character doesn’t take himself too serious and embrace the ridiculous he is thrown into. First book of the genre where I had to laugh so much.

    Heath Miller only enhances the experience by bringe the story to life through his narrative skills.
    The audiobook is definitely worth it.

    Suspenseful litRPG that hooks you in

    A very solid LitRPG story in a very interesting world that is quite different from many others.

    I was recommended this book and went in without any prior knowledge of this series and I instantly consumed the whole book as I was intrigued about how it would go on at every point. I was looking the book up online and found many negative reviews complaining about Jason being to "loud mouthed" and also his atheism and what not. I can definitely not share this Attitude. While he definitely comes across some what op in his social awereness , he is very consistent in his behavior and also explains his reasoning behind it. I found his overconfident way believable with the explanation of "it's another world, were else should you start if you want to change something". I also quite like that he has some struggles in accepting the religion of the new world and overall seems to show some development.

    The story is, especially for litRPG, is quite fresh and avoids some other tropes. It is very engaging and has the promise for many more adventures. The magic system and the world backstory seem very interesting although the essence stuff was quite confusing at first.

    Things I disliked: The narrator is quite monotone, especially when reading character sheets. Additionally, the constant "...Jason said....Rufus said..." is somewhat annoying (but you get used to it). And I read somewhere that the dialog seldomly contains any real discussion apart from the main story or bantering without consequences. I would agree to this assessment. There is room for improvement here.

    overall: very enjoyable litRPG story with fresh ideas, interesting system and engaging story which I hope will only get better in the next parts.
    Definitely worth listening to.

    very good book with a special hero

    i like almost everything about this book. for example that the main character is not the typical hero and that the topic relationship and romantic is not so important. i am looking forward to listen to the second book.

    but all this skill charts were to much for my taste. especially for an audiobook.

    Nie wieder LitRPG

    Ich liebe gute Fantasy Literatur und ebenso RPGs am PC. Aber beides als Hörbuch, ist eine Vergewaltigung von Kultur zu der ich beides im Einzelnen rechne. Literatur, auch Hörbücher sollen die Phantasie anregen, Bilder im Kopf malen. Bei diesem LitRPG wird das Bild jedesmals von dem 90er Jahre Computerspieldesign durchbrochen, das immer gleich abgespult wird. Ich konnte mir bisher unter dem Genre LitRPG nichts vorstellen, jetzt weiß ich NIE WIEDER. Wie dieses Hörbuch soviele gute Bewertungen erhalten hat ist mir schleierhaft, Vielleicht von Hörern, die keine RPGs kennen?

    Gute Story Ausbau-fähiges Telling

    Geschichte ist auf jeden Fall fesselnd und interessant.

    Ich habe Nur ein Problem damit, wie die Meldungen des "Interfaces" des Protagonisten vorgelesen werden. Mir ist es leider zu repetitiv und langatmig immer die gesamte Meldung vorzulesen und nicht nur die Essenziellen Teile.

    Des weitere stört mich bei Dialogen die ständige Erwähnung, wer der spreche ist mit uncreativen Abwandlungen von "... said".

    Gegen Ende dieses Buches haben die oben genannten Kritikpunkte merklich nachgelassen, ich werde mir die weiteren Teile anhören.

    Gradually going from good to great

    At first i was put off a bit by the writing style (a lot of "He said... She said...). I kept going for the great story and worldbuilding and found that the writing style improved massively during the book.
    Great speaker as well. Definately worth a listen!
