Über diesen Titel
Jason and his companions managed to forestall the inexorable undead, but their battle is far from done.
Both they and their enemies are scattered across a strange realm, one that someone must conquer if anyone is to get out alive. Territory by territory, factions fight to reunite their people and conquer the realm.
Jason must contend with alliances he doesn’t want, friends he cannot find, and enemies ranging from angelic despots to the power of an undead god. He must face a realm that has been warped by his own mind and find a way to save a friend whose sacrifice got them this far.
To have any chance against the enemies waiting for him, Jason will have to confront the power inside himself that he’s been unwilling to face, fearful of what he’ll become. Only by accepting the destiny that looms over him will he have the strength to face his foes, with no promise even that will be enough to defeat them.

Still in love with it

!!!! Please beware that spoilers will follow!
So if you haven’t read or listened to the audiobook until the very last succulent minute, I advise you to do that before reading my rating.
--------------------------------------------------------------SPOILERS---------------------------------------------------------------
First, I would like to get all the basic stuff behind us. The story, the voice actor, the character development, and the jokes are, like in all other books of this series, excellent – 5/5.
Now, I would like to say a few words about the story. At this point, again, here -----
!!!!!ARE SPOILERS – STOP READING!!!!!!!!
In the first part of the audiobook, the whole arc of Brighthearth City gets wrapped up.
I think the pacing here holds a good balance between the individual development of the characters and the overarching story.
In my opinion, the last part, where Jason absorbs the "authority" of the undead, could have been a bit longer.
The usage of the "weapon" Jason forged with the authority didn’t really get the attention it should have, in my opinion, but in the end, it was okay,
I guess. I thought the good ending for the Brighthearts (they got their own civilization back) and getting out of Jason's soul got enough light so the listener could paint a good picture of the "new" territory they got from Jason.
The "command structure" also got just enough time for the listener to understand how the Brighthearts are now organized.
The second part had a lot more points where I am afraid the story could take a bad turn in the future.
The point I am most afraid of is that too much "screen time" will be given to Jason's niece instead of Jason, as happened here, in my opinion.
The whole story part on Earth took too upfront a position in the second part, in my opinion. I mean, okay, Rufus got a big story part and a "redemption" arc after Gary's tragic death (which I thought was done masterfully; I have to say I am not a person who is "built close to the water," but when he died, phew, I cried some single tears, let me tell you that). But he is not the MC. I have to say that at least I am way more interested in what happens to Jason and his team instead of what happens to his niece, family, or even Rufus. This does not mean I don’t want to hear how they are doing, but the quantity is important
To come back to the "fight" and the interactions Jason has with his fellow immortal beings (now), I would have really enjoyed getting a deeper perspective of the duality of the struggle of getting their minds "downgraded" to a mortal’s perspective and why this is so important for them. (Yes, I know it is said in the story that they can’t "think" like a mortal anymore, so they use their avatars, but what does that REALLY mean?).
I think Jason's fight should have gotten way more screen time to make the conclusion pop off really hard. Maybe that’s why the conclusion felt so short in the story. I think it should have been a really, really big reveal in Jason fashion. It could have been really epic, but it stayed on a "cool" level for me.
To finish my rating/rant at this point, I would like to say that I really enjoyed this book again and I hope that we get a lot of Jason's adventures to listen to in the future (please don’t let it take too long for the next book; I can’t wait!).
