Über diesen Titel

A brand-new production of Andy Weir’s modern sci-fi classic, narrated by the incomparable Wil Wheaton, and featuring bonus content from the writings of Mark Watney.

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars.

Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there.

After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive.

Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain old "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

But Mark isn't ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills - and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit - he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?

Wil Wheaton, who has lent his voice to sci-fi blockbusters like Ready Player One and Redshirts, breathes new life (and plenty of sarcasm) into the iconic character of Mark Watney, making this edition a must-listen for both longtime fans of The Martian and new listeners alike.

BONUS MATERIAL: This edition includes the following extras:

  • “Diary of an AssCan” - Mark Watney, new astronaut
  • “I Made It!” - A happy letter to Mom
  • “Car Trouble” - A somewhat sad letter to Mom
  • “The Earthling” - A postscript. *Available for the first time in this recording

Will Wheaton does a really good job with a minor exception: He has no clue how a German accent sounds. For me as a German every spoken word from Vogel was hilarious, but it was distracting at the same time. He could have used some help there.

(two examples: we struggle with the th and Wheaton addresses that, but in the completely wrong way; on the other hand we wouldn't say "Ja" for yes when we are in "English mode" which he tried to achieve every. single. time)

Great story well read with okay quality

Weir hurls tons of back of envelope science and engineering at readers in the hope of distracting them from the story’s gaping factual holes. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a fun read, but there are so many breaches in this narrative it’s leaking more air than any of its various compromised space vessels and the characters are about as mature as a bunch of high school kids.

Near fatal structural breaches patched up with napkin sketches and duct tape humour

Must be awesome to really read. Liked Wil Wheaton anyway. It's a great Audiobook!

I thought I loved the movie- and don‘t know why I didn‘t check out the book much earlier. It is so much better!
The movie is already good- but this is so detailed and so technical - I love ❤️ it.
And not just the book is amazing, the audio and reading is as well. Great job Will Weaton!

Actually I found this audiobook by chance really. My wife was looking for books for me, checked out the newest book by Andy Weir - and found reviews that said it was far to technical. That’s why she thought it would be great for me. - when she told me, I fist checked earlier work of Andy and realized that he was the original author of the movie I like so much.
From there it was easy and now I am looking forward for the newer work of Andy. Pls wish me luck..

Absolutely incredible!
