Artificial Condition continues The Murderbot Diaries, a science fiction series that tackles questions of the ethics of sentient robotics. It appeals to fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans. "As a heartless killing machine, I was a complete failure."

It has a dark past - one in which a number of humans were killed. A past that caused it to christen itself "Murderbot." But it has only vague memories of the massacre that spawned that title, and it wants to know more.

Teaming up with a Research Transport vessel named ART (you don't want to know what the "A" stands for), Murderbot heads to the mining facility where it went rogue.

What it discovers will forever change the way it thinks.

Mir gefällt so ziemlich alles an dieser Serie. Ich habe mir alle Titel heruntergeladen und fange jetzt sofort mit dem dritten Teil an.

Mir gefällt, wie Murderbot langsam seinen Horizont erweitert und mehr Anteil nimmt am menschlichen Leben.

I didn’t think it would be better than the first book, but I was wrong, ART and Murderbot interacted is pure gold.

The first book is better IMO, more suspense and action, more World analysis. This one has a lot of static descriptions of what the bot is seeing, not all of them are interesting

Well performed and acted, story at times is a bit dull

The second book of this excellent series about AIs and constructed beings, this one adds ART as murderbot's partner. ART is an AI running a ship, which brings up reminiscence of HAL, of 2001 fame. But where HAL was made all too human, Martha Wells manages to keep ART firmly artificial, making an even more interesting character. And Kevin Free does, once again, a perfect job of bringing these two brilliant artificial characters to life.

Die Geschichte knüpft direkt am ersten Band an und besteht grundsätzlich aus 3 Teilen: die Interaktion mit dem Traumschiff, der neuen Menschen-Gruppe und den Zwischenfall in der Vergangenheit. Letzteres ist eigentlich ein wichtiger Teil der gesamten Geschichte, für mich aber etwas zu kurz gekommen. insgesamt hat mir das Hörbuch aber trotzdem gut gefallen und ich bin auf Teil drei gespannt.

Martha Wells gives a unique chance do dive into the mind of a good hearted, creative and sanctuary-moon-loving murderbot.
In this second novella I especially loved his new connection with the AI Art, who grows to be a helpful and curious friend with love for sarcasm protecting humans.

I just have a soft spot for autistic robots. The price is a little unreasonable for the duration though. Still really liked it.

I find it super exciting how the concept of machine and human is interpreted and what interactions result from this. I think I like fictional machines that have their own consciousness just as much as fictional humans. I love it because I know I don't have to be careful, unlike in reality where it's harder and I'm definitely more cautious. The books are definitely very thought-provoking. I like that it's a short story and also the overall plot of the killer bot, a very entertaining concept.
