    The apocalypse will be televised!

A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible.

In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground.

The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot. A dungeon so enormous, it circles the entire globe.

Only a few dare venture inside. But once you're in, you can't get out. And what's worse, each level has a time limit. You have but days to find a staircase to the next level down, or it's game over. In this game, it's not about your strength or your dexterity. It's about your followers, your views. Your clout. It's about building an audience and killing those goblins with style.

You can't just survive here. You gotta survive big.

You gotta fight with vigor, with excitement. You gotta make them stand up and cheer. And if you do have that "it" factor, you may just find yourself with a following. That's the only way to truly survive in this game - with the help of the loot boxes dropped upon you by the generous benefactors watching from across the galaxy.

They call it Dungeon Crawler World. But for Carl, it's anything but a game.

    Good and sad

Storry is ok but it is increesingly depressing. The hc is completly powerless against the Systems.
Its anoying and gives the impression that nothing He does, matters at all.

    Strange but funny

The ideas of Douglas Adams about the universe having a child with Serious Sam taking some really strange medicine but laughing during the whole process. Thats what you get.
    And its rather good too!!

    The two catch phrases

It seems that most people read those books and the publisher do think this story is kind of funny, hilarious even. And yes those books have a funny icing above the actual horror.
It is summarized with Carl's two catch phrases:
The official one, 'Goddammit, Donut' is the sometimes silly playing on cliches with simple puns and reference to pop culture.
The unofficial 'You won't break me' stands for the horror mankind and the protagonist go through. And this is the really good layer.

I think you can listen to it and have just fun. But then, I guess you are not really listening.

    Remark:
The narrator reads pretty slow and whiny which was hard for me to bear. I set the speed to 1.15 and then was able to enjoy.

    Unerwartet Gut

    Ich will nicht spoilern.
    Man hat das gerne durchgehört.
Hat wach gehalten bei einer langen Autofahrt sowohl auf dem Hin-, als auch Rückweg.

    Distracting Audioeffects

I might have enjoyed the story, but unfortunately I got constantly distracted by audio effects such as echo effects and sound modifiers for comments.
While this was much less intensive compared to some other products from Soundbooth, it completely destroyed the experience for me.

Funny, sad and a good story

The story is really chaotic and sad, but combined with a good dark humor.

Jaff Hase is also a great voice actor.

Great narrator, rest extremely stupid and vulgar

The Narrator did a superb job, but the world is just too stupid. I couldn't finish it.

Only recommend if you're desperate for some cheap entertainment.

This is an amazing book series. Period.

There are too many things I love about this series, to list in one review. This is definitely in my top 3 book series I've ever read, if not top 1. The story and worldbuilding are amazing, the humour is great and is incredibly well balanced with the tone of the book, which despite being oftentimes ridiculous and goofy, tells a serious story about two people (one of which happens to be a cat) fighting for their lives in an unfair and uncaringly brutal alien reality TV show.

The main character is smart and caring, but unlike the stupid righteous paladin trope that is found so often, especially in fantasy, has a sense of self-preservation. He takes considerable risks for others and for his own goals, but not blindly and always with a plan.

Another thing I'd like to mention is, that the author excels at building anticipation. At slowly building things up for a huge payoff. He expertly builds up characters, that the main charcters have only ever seen on TV screens, with small sneak peaks and tiny bits of information they gain from others, so the reader becomes invested in their stories. And it feels like true interest, that you've developed yourself in the characters, not forced information that you get clobbered over the head with because it's important in the future. And then you get a tiny bit of a tease, you learn that person they've only seen on screens is only a few miles away. It's just a throwaway comment, but it lights a spark of excitement. Finally they might meet. Very few books can do that. Build your interest, slowly and naturally, without ever feeling forced. With you looking forward to new bits of info, instead of being force fed lore.

And the author respects the intelligence of his audience. He knows that often a little hint is enough to let the reader know what's going on. A throw away comment can do more than a paragraph of elaboration. A five word description of a person can be more impactful than plainly saying who it is. The auther trusts his readers will get it. And it makes you feel so much more involved in the story. Figuring out what's going on without being told. Beign suspicious of something that was said earlier, just to be proven right two chapters later.

I can't stop gushing about this book series. The author deserves all the praise I can give. Give the books a try. You will not regret it.

    witzige, leicht chaotische Apokalypsr

Leichtgängige Action-Unterhaltung. Ich bin normalerweise kein Greund von Dingeoncrawling, aber die Umsetzing mag ich. Viel Spaß beim Hören!
