    Inhaltsangabe

After concluding their first year at Lorian Heights, Corin and his friends catch a train from their native Valia to the distant country of Caelford.

For most, this would be a simple vacation. Corin has other plans:

    • Meet Anabelle Farren, the eccentric owner of Farren Labs, and learn about artificial attunements.
    • Seek out Warren Constantine, a previous Arbiter, for training and a potential alliance.
    • Find the visage Ferras herself to seek a cure for Sera's condition.

Of course, Corin is Corin, and there's absolutely no chance he's going to be able to stick to a list. Even if he miraculously developed a sense of focus, he isn't the only one with plans....

The Blackstone Bandit. Everyone's favorite mysterious book entity. The aforementioned Farren. A vacationing professor. The mirror of a figure from Keras' past. When their plots intersect, Corin and his friends are, predictably, stuck at the center.

It's going to be a long vacation.

    much world building, less progress

i love the book, but to me it feels a little bit like an intermission - meaning it has a different structure from the first two books. this was to be expected given the start but i thought this would go farther in the timeline.

the book had a lot of information to dump. so the characters get to know more about major events instead of being part of them here.

without spoiling anything, i think there are a lot of hints of things to come and important hints about developments in the past (connections to the other books) here so i think i will revisit it a few times to comb through for details but would much rather have read this book right before the next book. - sadly time is linear and i will have to wait ;)

    Stalling but still fun

The plot stalls a bit, but there is still a lot of fun stuff. There are also major world building plot holes (like the distance of the train ride, which was longer than Paris to Beijing and everybody speaking their language at the other end). But it doesn't take itself too serious to it can all slide. Just wish the author wasn't stalling the plot so much.

    Good intelligent action story

And character development. It's rather preparation for the next boom. Describing more context and the broader scope attaching more strings to the story.

    Let down

Surprisingly boring - from the first book with the bliss of world-introduction, captivating progression (in skills or tech) & character-development, just the last one remained interesting enough to keep the reader attached to the book.
Not much action & even the little that happens is not really captivating.
Not happy with this book. Solid speaker-performance though.

Best within the series/universe so far

Excellent combination of careful world building, great story telling and tongue-in-check humor.
And lots of openings and plots for more future books in this universe.

    Disappointing

Research, but no progress. Feels more like a textbook, without practical application. Skill and mana levels are somewhat the Main Focus, but in fights play no role whatsoever. How can weak students fight demigods, while strong emeralds die like flies?

    Less funny, more depressing

Story is good as always but less funny and lightweight. Four words are left

    Solide Fortsetzung. Slice of life/Worldbuilding

Loved to listen to this audiobook

I have sincerely enjoyed all three Arcane Ascension audiobooks. The story is very smooth, the world building intriguing, and main characters very likeable. The audio version is also very well read with dynamic voices that never get boring.
