Now, without further segue, onto the good points. Firstly, I liked the subtle and nuanced romantic subplot. Romance is clearly not the focus of this work, and any romance that is discussed only adds to its plot.
Secondly, the side characters. The plot heavily focuses on Sam's development, and there is no filler content watering down the plot line. The pacing is quite fast, a bit too fast for my tastes, but it feels natural nonetheless. Except for a few inconsistencies, it makes sense as well. Metaphors have been adapted to the protagonists's species, and the magic system is intriguing. That's why I decided to rate it five stars.
Now onto complaining. My goodness, you can just feel the aggravation rolling off the protagonist at times. I get the sense that the author is quite fed up with society. All of the characters seem a little simple, a little too clear-cut and predictable. Is it because they are cobolds that their personalities appear so much flatter than humans? I hope we will get to see more nuanced portrayals when we move into human territory.
Additionally, my human sensibilities somewhat prevented me from fully enjoying the work. The world of the book I'd a cruel one, and Sam lacks remorse, especially toward other species.
Then there are a few inconsistencies. For example, I can only assume that at the end of that last battle the witch was lipreading?
All in all, the interesting yet outweighs the disappointing. Hence, 5/5.

The story is amazing I loved it. Following a little Kobold on its way to become a dragon is simply awesome.
The Audio however is awful its not simply the audio quality I have listened to worse Audiobooks on Audible no its probably a mix of not that great a Microphone for the Narrator, the intonation of the Narrator himself and no post processing whatsoever. These factors mix together to destroy your ears. I really struggled to listen to the amazing story because of the audio peaks a little post processing would probably solved the issue or if not made it bearable. As it was I needed to install an Equalizer with compression functionality to somewhat normalize the audio. It didn't solve the problem entirely but it helped a little.
I really hope the next Book in the series isn't as bad because I don't know if I can go through this again.
