The Lions character development is great to watch especially compared to his personality in the Horus Heresy books.

Best 40k audiobook in a long time!
I realy like Jonsons character development and the plot as a whole. Very well writen over all and flawlessly voiced!

I often asked where to start reading Warhammer 40K. Some answered this with "wherever you like".

However, this book is a tremendous start to get into the current state of the galaxy. I was lukewarm on the “Dawn of Fire” series. It was not bad, but not great either.

This book on the other hand gives an incredible view of a primarch in the wrong millenia, while still letting you explore the setting from both a 30k as well as 40k view.
After this I read up on much more Warhammer 40k (I personally liked “The Devastation of Baal”, “The Infinite and the Divine”, “Dante”. Honorary shoutout to “Vulkan Lives”, it is technically 30k).
What really shines are the characters of the Lion and the fallen. The ideas used for these characters are teremendous and my heart warms, when i think that i will be able to read more about them in a future book. The care and thoughtfulness that has been shown here... is truely inspiring.

A negative point that i have is that it is too short for my tastes with "only" 12h. Other SciFi/Fantasy series are more bang for your buck, for example 55h for oathbringer, which on the other hand can also be intimidating to new readers.
In other words i would want more content, but your mileage may vary

The plot/story was an introduction piece, so it is more like a canvas background. Some fast strokes paint a picture of the galaxy in ruins and the Lion tries to be steadfast. Everything just works out too fast for me. With another 5-10h material the author could have easily fleshed out the humans around the Lion. I think the antagonists plan was ... "ambitious"? Personally I thought it was a bit bonkers, but it does fit the character very well.

My overall enjoyment of the novel was still 5/5, as I like all the characters + the speaker was great with the voice of Zabriel, the Lion and Baelor.

I loved listening to this book and have listend to it three times by now. I hope we get more of these detailing the Lions return to his sons and the reaction of the modern Dark Angels to the redeemed fallen

This was simply one of the best audiobooks I have ever read heard so far. Awesome characters and the speaker is absolutely awesome.

Amazing, the change in the Lions character, his reaction to Roboute being alive and his sheer badassery. The Russ part was a jab though, I got excited for a second. 12/10

This is my first audiobook. I’ve read Warhammer novels before but this one was just amazing, the story is consistent and well written and the voice acting is top notch!
