Über diesen Titel
An IT worker explores an alternate dimension in his office in the first book of a fun and fast-paced series blending cubical life and dungeon fantasy.
Working as overnight tech support, James Lyle has long said he’d do anything to escape the boredom. But his commitment to excitement is tested when a slight coincidence one shift sends him to a different part of his office building . . . and he discovers a stairwell that contains not stairs but rather a landscape of seemingly infinite cubicles against a distant horizon.
Unwilling (and unable) to stay away, James and a few of his trusted friends begin to explore this endless maze of supernatural business ennui, a few minutes in the real world turning into eight hours of encounters with strange creatures and even stranger interior design choices. But in a realm that allows them to level up in fax machine repair and provides them with enough cash to pay the rent, there are also adversaries that are quickly becoming dangerous—and potentially lethal.
As James, along with his companions, delves ever deeper into this extraordinary place, he starts to realize that animate staplers and time dilation might not be the biggest challenges they face, and those challenges might not stop at the entrance . . .
The Daily Grind is the epic beginning to a slice-of-life urban fantasy that effortlessly blends wry commentary on office life with intricate character- and world-building.
The first volume of the hit LitRPG fantasy series—with more than four million views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

It follows a down-on-his-luck office worker grinding through the slow, gray sludge of American work life until he stumbles across a literal interdimensional dungeon hidden in the bowels of his office building.
The story keeps one foot grounded in reality while letting the other dangle into the abyss.
There’s something almost cathartic about watching a character so stuck in the monotony of his dead end job survive and suddenly be forced to deal with something out of this world.
The characters are mostly likable, and a few of them have motivations that go beyond surface-level quirkiness.
But where the story stumbles a bit is with the protagonist himself. His relentless need to be clever or witty, paired with the apparent desire to be seen as clever gets old fast. It’s not that he doesn’t have some good lines.
But when every situation needs at least one “look how clever I am” moment, it wears thin.
It feels like he's trying to audition for a snarky Netflix special rather than reacting like a real person to the surreal horror (or opportunity?) in front of him.
Still, despite a protagonist who might remind you a little too much of That Guy on Twitter™.
The story does a solid job mixing existential dread with fantastical danger.
Weirdly relatable. Oddly entertaining. Occasionally annoying. Worth the read.
Intressting story, has potential

James and his friends are normal people, but not in a way that makes them boring, but relatable. They're the sort of people I could imagine being friends with; nerdy, witty, genuinely interested and just a bit weird. Add the idea of someone like that randomly stumbling into a genuine dungeon, a strange one filled with office supply mimics and traps rather than sewer rats and goblins, and I was hooked pretty fast.
James and the others aren't infallible, but they try to approach the situation with the thought it deserves...and also the excitement of having discovered something with the potential to completely change your life.
Aside from the characters, what I enjoy most is the sheer thrill of exploration. The dungeon is so different from the usual setup that I couldn't wait to see which strange creatures James and Anesh would encounter on their next delve, couldn't help but wonder if they'd find answers to their questions. The author manages to make you insanely curious about the how and why of things without making it frustrating, and I love that.
The creature ideas are creative and strange, in all the best ways, and there have been a good handful of moments when I genuinely thought "Oh shit, how are they going to handle that one?", at the edge of my seat with wanting to see where things were going.
I'm overjoyed to see that the next three audiobooks are already out, and I'm going to get the next one the minute I finish typing this review. I'd greatly recommend this to any fellow nerds out there who appreciate human main characters behaving like real people, who prefer a steady increase in power and knowledge over the currently very popular instantly-overpowered MC trope, and who enjoy puzzling things out alongside the cast. You won't be disappointed, though you might end up side-eyeing staplers and unattended coffee cups with an unexpected amount of dread in the future.
Fascinating and original
