Book 8 in the Dawn of Fire Series

As the Indomitus Crusade rages on, Inquisitor Rostov discovers vital intelligence that could reveal the plan of the notorious Hand of Abaddon, and hastily gathers together those loyal to his cause.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE

The dark schemes of the Hand of Abaddon near fruition. Can the already stretched forces of the Imperium manage to hunt down and prevent this new threat?

THE STORY

Defending the Anaxian Line, Ultramarines Lieutenant Ferren Areios uncovers a dread vision that has ties to the mission of an old ally. Meanwhile, Magda Kesh campaigns alongside the 84th Mordian. Though she refutes her fate as something more than a mere soldier, is she truly touched by the Emperor?

Despite a fractious alliance, the Hand’s scheme is reaching culmination. Amidst the infighting, Tharador Yheng yearns to be free of her master Tenebrus’ shadow and claim her destiny. But another acolyte has embarked on his own path, the Red Corsair Graeyl Herek. Both vie for the favour of the Dark Gods, and the means to harness an ancient evil that could reshape the war between the Imperium and Chaos.

Written by Nick Kyme. Narrated by John Banks. Runtime 13 hours and 4 minutes approx.

I've been a staunch critic of Nick Kyme in the past but he did an excellent job with this one. The continuation of the narrative from the first 2 books of the series is well executed. the Votann get a nice showing including some pov.
the story also comes with some significant implications for the future of 40k narratives.
Overall, highly enjoyable and I can only recommend.

Great Continuation of the Main narrative

I thought it was okay, but the plot felt a bit mid and the ending was a bit of an anticlimax

Pretty good, but not as strong as some of the series

This book shares similar problems with most of the other dawn of fire books for me. It has some nice parts that I found very thrilling but overall there are far more lengthy parts that are boring ro listen too and make getting through the book a chore. I think the problem is to many point of views. Every time the narrative switched to jang or the red chorsairs it ripped me conpletely out from my immersion, because the chaos pov is too different from the imperial one. I think it woukd be better to have seperate books for the seperate viewpoints on the narrative.

Good parts but a lot of lengths

Another prime example of him ruining established characters and completely wasting an opportunity to tell a good story. Nick Kyme yet again falls shor by a long way compared to other authors writing for the IP. Sadly his books are hard to avoid when he yet again gets to write a book in an otherwise thrilling and interesting series.
For what it's worth, John Banks performs great, as usual.

Avoid.
