THE STORY

Wonderfully written, not just pewpew-bolter. Multiple charming characters and an interesting and capable villain. Love the voiceactor. The battles are described tactical and make sense in my mind.

Elemental Council is a must read for every Tau Fan out there.

+You get interessting characters from all Casts as PoV Characters
+ The story becomes truly great in the second half of the novel.
+The novel contains some of the best Fights I read in the 40k universe in recent years.

- The start of the novel has one battle which feels a bit like filler. The warm up of the novel feels therefore a bit long.
- The novel speaks often about the impact of discussed policies on civilians. But those impacts are too often toled not shown.
- The story is not focused on Battle Suits. I liked that but I know that many Tau Fans are here for them so be warned. It's a great Tau Story, but none of the Protagonists is a Battlesuit Pilot.

As someone, who is not a fan of the Tau in particular, I just bought this on a fluke, because it looked interesting. The story definetly needs a bit to get going, but once it does, it it pretty good. Highlight of the story is Artamax, as he makes for a phenomenal villian. There are a lot of battles going on and thus also a lot of battle planning, so expect the fire and earth cast to get the biggest spotlight, but the air and water cast are also present.
A definetly interesting aspect about this story, is the interaction between the Tau and the humans, as well as between the differen cast members and the clash of their own wishes, hopes between each other and the greater good.

You should give it a try if you like social interaction, bonds between characters, a more down to earth story

You might want to skip this if you want extreme stakes, nonstop gigantic battles, darkness and horror everywhere

A few flaws, but overall very good!

Unfortunately, regardless of her high quality as a narrator, her purposefully raspy voices for some characters cause me actual physical discomfort.

Can't comment on the quality of the story since I'm far from finishing it.
