Jack Mitchell knows he won't survive the impact of the massive asteroid hurtling towards Earth. He's not one of the handful of lucky lottery winners scheduled for rescue. But he did luck into a NexGenVR capsule, which means Jack can risk a one-way trip to the world of Viridan Gate Online (V.G.O.), an ultra-immersive fantasy role-playing game. Taking that leap of faith, though, means permanently trapping his mind in the game and killing his body in the process.

Worse, one in six die during the transition, and even if Jack beats the odds, he'll still have to navigate a world filled with vicious monsters, domineering AIs, and cutthroat players. And when Jack stumbles upon a secret conspiracy to sell off virtual real estate to the ultrawealthy—transforming V.G.O. into a new feudal dark age—the deadly creatures inhabiting Viridian Gate's expansive dungeons will be the least of his concerns.

If Jack can't game the system, he's going to be trading in a quick death for a long, brutal one. Oh well, at least he gets a dragon . . .

Die Idee und auch die Umsetzung eines VR MMO finde ich sehr gut. Die Charaktere sind gut gezeichnet und gefallen mir. Die Story ist abwechslungsreich.

Pretty nice story. Would rate it as a bit darker than usual of this genre, makes it better in my opinion. The ending was a big no for me. I don't know what you wanted to do there but a MC being someone else's pawn, no matter who, is just a disaster waiting to happen and makes the story uninteresting in my opinion. Hope this changes in next books. I'm not interested in a MC that does not chooses for themselves.

I am not really a gamer, but I liked the story anyway. Very interesting premise.

Leider neigt der Sprecher dazu unterschiedliche Figuren mit teils, für mein Empfinden, überzogener Stimme wiederzugeben. Einige Charaktere klingen dadurch sehr nasal oder als spräche der Erzähler durch ein Tuch oder hinter vorgehaltener Hand. Schade.

Erinnert mich an das Zuschauen bei RPGs früher… ich wurde solide unterhalten, wenn der Plot auch nicht sehr trickreich ist. Mein erster Ausflug in die Welt des litRPG und nicht der letzte.

The narrator is doing a poor Job. It gets better near
the Ending.
The MC is loosing sense of Reality, and finds it again Just to lose it again rapidly. The Game System doesnt make sense and isnt thought through. The whole Meteor thing doesnt Male Sense either. They can Build Server Citys underground with a cooling System and electricity but all humans Need to die? Come on, thats just lazy.

No Sound Logic

Weak story full of plotholes, unlikable generic characters with no development or believable motivation, the female oh-so-tough level 40 character can’t do a thing without a level 6 dork and immediately gets physical, because that’s just how it works, right?

The voice actor is okay, but not the right fit. He’s got a deep voice for radio, but his range and delivery isn’t really great and his whispered yells are comical at best.

Hard pass - if you like LitRPG, go with quality like “He who fights with Monsters” instead.
