Slowish start to a great series

Jes, it starts slower. Jes, MC acts like her Biological age and not her reincarnational age. Explanations are not on the nose. All of that is good.
I realy like Andrea Emme's narration. Great worldbuilding. Interesting charakters. I binged the series. It is just that good. Listen to it and enjoy.

Aditionaly i would recomend to visit the series on roial road for a lidle bit of additional info on the elements and worldbuilding,
Also: theire is a Worldmap. Especialy in the later series it helped me to understand, where in the world what location is placed.

Cheers.

Good, though at times infuriating

The story is good, with a slower start but a well thought out world. There are two things that bother me to no end. Firstly is the childish nature of the MC. Not saying it doesn't go well with the story, but that doesn't mean it isn't infuriating nonetheless. Secondly is the overly moral and emotional choices of the MC, here again, it is totally in character with the MC, but nonetheless makes me feel like wanting to pluck my hair out rather than continue listening. Yet despite all that I will continue reading. So saying, it is a nice story if you can look past those.

Good. But slow and annoying start.

This book, and in extension this series of books, is good. Unfortunately it starts lowly in to the story, and the reincarnated character acts according to his new mental age, despite the knowledge. A good decision for world building etc., but makes the first two hours, and the first book in lesser extend, annoying to read through at times.

Pro: main character has clearly limited skillset. Magic system and world building good. Society makes life hard even in peaceful times for Alaine, a female character in a pre-modern-world. Reincarnation knowledge limited by Gods, making Alaine not unrealisticly knowledgeable solving everything like other Isekai stories. People die in this story, even important friends/family aren't safe.

Cons: slow start, sometimes too much statsheets etc, sometimes imagined problems by alaine, that aren't real (though annoying at times, in character to the mental age concept)

I won't go further into detail for spoiler reasons, but I especially appreciate the currently latest books (8-9),and how they progressed the story with a smart timeskip. If you enjoy Isekai/Fantasy story's with magic, where the main character is powerful, but has to struggle a lot to survive and prosper, then this is a good series of books for you.

Good book

I listened to all 5 audio books that are available so far and I just can say that they enticed me. I really like the story and how it's progressing, the world is fantastic and there are many really epic situations but not in a way that they feel strange. I find it very good that the main character isn't starting op but rather has to build up her strength. This is also a huge plus in the story further on as there is no break point where she suddenly becomes so op that she can Handel everything on her own. Her strength is rather put forward through a very special skill set, that is rare than just to be op. Also it has a lot of points where the listnere is encouraged to thing about ethics as she takes a vow that can't easily be broken. The only two negativ thing I have to say is that the system messages get sometime annoying but can easily be ignored as the story is really dam good. The other thing is sth that isn't particularly part of the book itself but rather the fact that I find it very sad that book 6 isn't released as audio book and I haven't seen that it is planed to be released as audio book. To sum it up great story main character gets reincarnated and is placed in a very interesting setting and story. I hope book 6 is soon available as audio book and book 7 gets released on Kindle 😁

Rough start, good end!

I hate "Sneak Peeks" for the next book. 40 minutes that I actually will just pay for again with the next book just feels like stolen time, instead of a "free gift"... But anyway, about the book:

At first I thought this wouldn't really catch my interest, as the start felt like a very easy middle grade / YA sort of LitRPG that just lacked a bit of... I don't even know what exactly. It just felt a bit shallow.
We have a girl from our world reborn into a gaming system world, and she retains some of her memory. I found it so weird how she is a small kid, with some knowledge of a 14 year old, but then she throws a tantrum like a toddler.
Though I could understand the tantrum, given that it was at the utterly unfair sexism she meets in this new world. Women are more or less married off, and then belong to their husband in a way. They also can't become citizens, and their husbands have the last say over what stats and skills they shall level.

Oh and there's slavery, even though it's not "for life", but for specific amounts of time, either as punishment, or if you sell yourself into slavery for money.

Both of these, plus reading about another woman being violently beaten by her husband for "not being in the mood" when she didn't feel well at all, just contrasted really badly with the sorta fluffy YA tone and style, and so it was a bit of a bumpy start for me.

After a while the story takes a new direction though, and from there on I really quite enjoyed it! Our main character grows up a bit, and we leave for an adventure, which also means we leave the city and its problems behind.

I really enjoyed the characters and the way they all interacted with each other as a team! It reminded me a bit about The Wandering Inn and the mix of darker and grittier content with light and fun bits as well, and a lot of banter.

As the rough patches were all at the start, I did end on a high note, and will definitely consider to read more in the series!

Great Book

I devout the book. It is has a lot of skill and Stats description if you do not like that the book is not for you. In the beginning the character is pretty childish bit she is a child so it is fitting and making sense that this is getting better weil she is getting older and more experienced.
I love the Story set-up and the way the main character is just trying her best to make the best of her life the world that is not always fair.

Interesting book with many weakpoints

The book itself isn't bad but there are just some parts that are so weird to me.
Like our MC is reborn but doesn't act like she has any memories. You would think she would at least be a little bit smarter and act more mature even as a child. It also never really comes into play that much. Same as the oppressed women trope that we get in the beginning of the book.
First of all you can make books with these tropes either really interesting or really annoying. This one is somehow in the middle because you hear about it but no one does anything about it and in the end it isn't really important anymore

The system is also kind of weird all stats are interlinked and if your raise one you decrease another and so on doesn't really seem like a system I would like to play a game with.

So in the end it looks to me like the author had tons of ideas for a book but they don't necessarily fit together well. And from the brief descriptions I've read for the other books in this series the author does not slow down into bringing in theme after theme that would normally be a standalone topic for a book.

This reincarnation doesn't work for me

The plot idea is good and with a bit more explanation and structure it would be a decent one but it feels rough on too many edges.

*contains spoiler*
I love stories about reincarnation and I don't expect an imba character, because it doesn’t leave much room for character growth, but at least a little bit of maturity and intelligence would be nice here. The MC reincarnated with the condition of only keeping a part of her memories. Sadly, she’s acting like a real child. The MC is in a body of a 8th year old, should have a mind of 28, but acts like 10. It leaves me complaining about her immature behavior, since she should know so much better. Only after 2/3 of the book we get the explanation about the MC’s brain being one of a literal child. This should be put at the beginning of the book. It makes me question the plot about reincarnation, since the only thing the MC uses is her biology knowledge and telling fairytales.

The MC has zero awareness (like a mayfly) or interest about the world she lives in, is constantly surprised about culture etc, has many questions but never DOES anything to get answers. Later she breaks into the library however the only thing we know is her complaining about the lack of fictional books. In addition, we’ll never know WHAT she read but nothing groundbreaking, cause otherwise it should have been mentioned.

Another let down is the oppression of women. It could be a good plot (which I was looking forward to) but the author didn't exploit its real potential. Every person has super powers and women just resign to their fate, the only little rebellion being some secret skills which men don’t know. I can't imagine a society where 50% of mankind are suppressed and not even a single countermovement, secret organization or another underground structure exists. It feels like the world building needs some more focus here.

The skills are also quite exhausting to listen to (audiobook). It's like a pathfinder character sheet where every single action gets a skill and every lvl has to be announced separately. Summoning it up would make leveling up much nicer.

All in all I wouldn’t recommend this book, only if you have really nothing else to read.

Between System Messages and Exposition.

So, there's a good story to be had here. I like where it's going, hell, I'm listening to the third book as I write this, but I just have a few gripes that keep pulling me out of the story and make me roll my eyes. It does get better as the story runs it's course, but the first two books especially had some rather eggregious examples.

First of all, the positives:
The story is good. I've listened to my fair share of audiobooks on here and I've recently come to enjoy works from female writers a lot, because they provide a very different experience than the ones of male writers. Having a woman's/girl's perspective on a patriarchal fantasy world is a first for me.
The characters are alright. There's a few that are rather One-dimensional outliers, but most of them have their niche.

I don't expect much more from a book than this. I enjoy LitRPGs because their systems provide both guidelines to understand the world and for the author to hold onto, preventing them from powercreeping the story too quickly with "it is what it is" reasonings.

Here's the negatives:
There are SO MANY SYSTEM MESSAGES. Seriously, there's pages upon pages of it and every few (short) chapters, you get the full run-down of the main character's current loadout. That would be somewhat okay if not for one thing...
Why are all the levels so high? Instant gratification aside, the levels don't really mean anything. A few times per book you'll get the "Oh, my stats are this and that high. I can do this and that better now", but there's an almost constant stream of at least one of the 24+ skills or 2+ classes levelling up.
An example: You have a healing ability. The effectiveness gets determined by: Medical knowledge (not system), magic power (stat), magic control (stat). The ability levels up all the time but what does that level do? Why IS there even a level to all those abilities when all that really matters is the class and the stats that come with it?
Sorry for that tangent, but I'm not quite done.
My last gripe is consistency. Almost like the system messages, the book keeps introducing new rules as to how the world and this society works whenever it's convenient, then drops some of those rules again when they become a hassle to write around.
Example: Early on it is stated that Women are not allowed to own money or property in this country and are thus bound to a father, husband, ... This rule is kept for all of 10 minutes until it's narrated how the main character, a girl, has her own money around the house and buys stuff. Eventually the idea of widows is brought up and you won't hear the "women may not own property" rule again until further into the story when it becomes convenient again. This particular rule is eggregious to me because it keeps coming up, even into the third book. It's explained again MINUTES before we're told that a woman opens (and presumably owns?) a school.
TLDR: Women are as oppressed as they need to be in any given scene and the story takes a hit as a result. Sometimes the author remembers and writes it in, only to forget it again.

I presume that system creep hit this book way too hard early-on and the author just didn't keep track of the rules she made.

All in all, my veredict is that it's a story with potential that gets better over time, but long portions of it are quite tedious.
