The Beginning After the End: Publisher's Pack contains books 1 and 2 of The Beginning After the End series.

    Early Years, book one:

I never believed in the whole “light at the end of the tunnel” folly where people, after having a near-death experience, would startle awake in a cold sweat exclaiming, “I saw the light!” But there I was, in this so-called “tunnel” facing a glaring light, when the last thing I remembered was sleeping in my room - the royal bed-chamber, as others called it. Had I died? If so, how?

King Grey once benefited from unrivaled strength, wealth, and prestige in a world governed by martial ability but now finds himself reborn in a society dominated by magic. Given a second chance at life, the once-king strives to understand his role in this new world and the purpose of his reincarnation while correcting the mistakes of his past.

    New Heights, book two:

I had a family now, I had people who loved me. It was a feeling I never wanted to give up. I’d treasure it, fight for it if I had to...and for that, I needed to better myself. More so even than when I had been a king.

Given a second chance at life, Arthur Leywin wishes above all to grow strong enough to protect his family, as the memory of his cold and disconnected past life as King Grey still haunts him. To this end, Arthur adopts the persona of the masked adventurer, Note, and delves into the dungeons under the forbidding Beast Glades. On his adventures, Arthur discovers a strange magical blade that responds to the dragon’s will inside him, befriends a powerful young conjurer whose past is shrouded in mystery, and battles the deadly Elderwood Guardian. Yet all his efforts might prove for naught when Arthur makes an enemy of a talented conjurer from a very powerful family, putting his very future at risk.

Good narrator, way too lucky / overpowered MC

In my opinion the main character is just way too lucky and overpowered from the very beginning without good reasoning other than that he is just a genious. Even with the preset that he has all his wisdom of his previous life it just irks me that he literally does the 'perfect desicion' and inredible feat every step of the way. Combined with his god given abilities / gifts only he posesses the story looses any excitement for me, even though the world itself has potential.

As long as you dont think too hard about it...

The story is enjoyable, but you can tell very early on it's a typical low effort world and overpowered protagonist kind of book. Born in a pile of straw, next to the library with dozens of books. Huh? So they've got low cost printed books but the world is medieval? His father, away from his adventurer group for years, yet everyones still acting like he's the leader in the group dynamic. Yeah no, doesn't work like that. A stereotypical group of bandits, throwing their lives away vs bad odds for a little profit. Sure... That sounds sustainable. Did I mention things getting sexual between a 4 and 6 year old? At least one of them has an excuse, being an adult in all but body, but I'm not sure if that makes it any better... And that's just a few things in the first few chapters.

There's a place for intentionally low effort entertainment, but if you're usually reading well built worlds, like the ones from Sanderson, this probably isn't for you.

At least the narrator is a gem and a half.

    what's the manga called?

I only listened a couple of hours till now, but I am convinced this is the story for an isekai manga I stumbled upon some time ago...
Why isn't it advertised as such? found no mention of it on audible.

    another one of those

This story just rotates around the protagonist. Nobody exists, or does anything if the protagonist isn't around.

At the age of 10, he already is as strong as the best of the best and killed a monster of a level so high that it counts as a legend.

The writing is okay. Nothing special. Good enough.

The speaker does okay. Good quality. Good voice diversity. The emotions could use some more highs and lows. But that might be because the story is so monotone.

In conclusion, the book is good enough to listen to the end, but nothing special. A story I have seen a dozen times before. Literature fast food. Not going to pick up the next.

    Like a Dragon

Nice story pacing. Only drawback is a short length of each book.
But, worth a fortune to hear Travis making an "kyou-kyou" noises)))

    love it but..

i really enjoy the story & as always baldree is amazing. thats why i rate it 5. About one thing i have to complain: the protagonist is way too strong, he never is in real danger you just know that based on the previous actions he miraculously has a new amazing technique to help him which is kind of dull. also his personality is a bit boring, where are the flaws? everything about him & his family is picture perfect & sunshine.
