Danny Tozer has a problem: She just inherited the powers of Dreadnought, the world's greatest superhero. Until Dreadnought fell out of the sky and died right in front of her, Danny was trying to keep people from finding out she's transgender. But before he expired, Dreadnought passed his mantle to her, and those secondhand superpowers transformed Danny's body into what she's always thought it should be. Now there's no hiding that she's a girl.

It should be the happiest time of her life, but Danny's first weeks finally living in a body that fits her are more difficult and complicated than she could have imagined. Between her father's dangerous obsession with "curing" her girlhood, her best friend suddenly acting like he's entitled to date her, and her fellow superheroes arguing over her place in their ranks, Danny feels like she's in over her head.

She doesn't have time to adjust. Dreadnought's murderer - a cyborg named Utopia - still haunts the streets of New Port City, threatening destruction. If Danny can't sort through the confusion of coming out, master her powers, and stop Utopia in time, humanity faces extinction.

I personally really liked the book. It was well written and easy to follow along. And despite showing the abuse the protagonist has to suffer, there is a certain optimism you get from the experience.
It took me a bit to get used to the narrator. But I think they fits perfectly.
Looking for the sequels I stumbled on the authors Facebook account, it seems she is struggling financially. If like me, you got this audiobook included in your subscription and enjoyed, consider supporting her.

Superhero story with a twist

This book is one of the best transgender fantasy stories I came across outside of internet story’s I read on scribble hub. The protagonist was very understandable and relatable in her struggles. Her gender identity was one of the main plot points but surrounded by a very catching and trilling superhero origin story. I listen thru the whole audio book in two days and I only needed so long because I had to study for exams in between. I can’t point a single best story point and I do not want to spoil anything. The voice actress gave the different characters distinguishable voices while still being always understandable. Overall in liked her performance.

There are several ideas in this Book but none of them it pushed to a fun limit. Trans Hero Power Fantasy is sweet but it can't commit to shamelessly enjoy itself. It doesn't want to be a darker realistic Book. The realistic Struggle is one of the better written parts. But it fails to captivate me. I think that the Author and Setting could keep growing but I would be hesitant to spend money on it. I hope that it keeps improving. It could be a good thing.

This book really is a glowing example of how valuable positive represantation can be. While there has been a big push for trans acceptance lately, the topic is often approached from a very sterile angle, with lots of jargon thrown around. And while its important to discuss theory, I personally am really thankful for this story, because it allows the reader to emphasize with the emotional turmoil of the whole situation, whish is something i have rarely seen done before, especially this well. Thank you for this book Ms Daniels, it really means the world to me.

An unbelievably helpful story

I really enjoyed the intuitive writing style, but some main aspects are missing. Mainly, in a world where superheroes have been commonplace for almost a century, no one seems to be impacted by it. Even The MCU had a better handle on subtle changes to the world. And one thing I don’t like about the MP: she’s blaming her das and her doctors for not accepting, who she is, but never tells anyone how she really feels…how are they supposed so know? And when she does open up, she’s disgusted that acceptance takes more than a minute, even though she’s been struggling with that internal conflict for years herself ( says so right in chapter one). I do believe that the struggle is real, but that doesn’t make everyone else a blunt tool to be used to craft a mean-spirited narrative…Especially when an author could easily change peoples minds with a conversation… the MP gets super powers, but people are too dumb to change their minds?

A well written, well paced emotional and physical journey through the lens of a traumatised protagonist. Excellent performance too.
