Über diesen Titel
Dorky, socially awkward entomology student Evelyn wakes up one morning to find herself as some sort of alien-human hybrid trapped on an unknown planet.
Once the initial panic winds down, she quickly learns she's capable of producing more of herself: additional bodies all sharing one mind. Being well-versed in sci-fi tropes, she quickly resolves to not devour the planet and turn into an unflinching biological armada, and instead uses her new powers to try and help as many people as possible.
Unfortunately, it turns out that helping people is often very, very difficult. With dreams of Earth filtering into her mind as she sleeps, the mystery of what she is and how she got here slowly comes to light while her power and responsibility grows ever larger.
For an anxious young woman who was already struggling to get by in a normal life, it all feels like a bit too much.
Hive Minds Give Good Hugs is a story about mistakes, difficult choices, neurodivergency, and cool alien ecology. It's a very human story, even though Evelyn might never be one again.

Combat and survival was done well too :D.
Together with a voice actor that has really great acting skill. It was an overall enjoyable ride.
If i must point out some contras.
That would be :
- No LGBT warning. I don't have a problem, but even light stuff might offend certain people. It was more of the cute kind, no harem stuff or just sexy time each chapter. The two make a good pair also.
- The "big bad mystery evil" has no reason for all of this happening, litterally. It's even needlessy cruel to a point. Why would you do that whole hivemind setup thing?
- At the end you as the listener, get force feed the view of life of someone. Quite litterally. I'm not a fan if someone goes "the only way is ... ". Because that's so final ... there's no good way nor bad way. It's just that even if you could, maybe you shouldn't? As far as i am concerned. If people can't lift themself out of a problem (as singluar or as a group), then that's that. Try harder. That's my view on the big bad. We can help, but at the end it's like with the christianity ... god helps those, that help themself. Or something like that xD.
Good with some twists.

In my personal opinion the story and pacing is great. The concept of getting turned into a hive mind is so novel that I was instantly hooked and while I can see why someone might find Evelyn to be "annoying" I found her to be a very refreshing main character that for me was very relatable.
That said I also really liked the other characters and it's thanks to Jessica Almasy that this already gread book got turned into a phenomenal audiobook.
My new favorite Audiobook

Also, I saw this costing nothing on audible, so I got it for that reason originally, but after finishing it, I bought it on kindle as well. And I'll look into buying more from the reader as well.
More than entertainment

To start on a high note, the characters are well done. Only a few of them are likeable in this particular story, but that's by design.
Unfortunately, the story falls short in multiple ways. The lack of radical political education is one I've already mentioned in the title. I think ideologies particularly pertinent, and easy to adapt for this scenario are anarcho-communism, and anarcho-syndicalism. In particular, it would help the characters find a better balance between letting bad things happen, and absolute tyranny.
Another shortfall is that the story becomes entirely tell, don't show when it comes to the utopias characters try to establish. It wouldn't have been hard to show a bit of street level utopia, but we just don't get to see it. It's some of the most interesting parts of the story, it's thematically central, and we just don't get to see it.
That being said, I did enjoy it overall. It falls far short of its potential, but it is enjoyable. The biotinkering is my personal highlight, and I would have loved to see some more of it!
Great concept, lacking execution, author could do with more radical political education

An unexpected masterpiece.

Every time there were consequences for her losing focus.
Every time there were sparks of guilt for when she felt shame about failing.
And every time she panicked or list track of time, she blamed herself more.
All of this is scarely accurate, and I love it.
There's the constant cycle of guilt, the issues with motivation to do uninteresting things, the fixations that bordered on obsession, the loss of emotional control, the ramblings, the need for overly precise definitions, the setting of goals and boundaries that she broke shortly after...
And the constant, ever present feeling of: "I am not good enough. What is wrong with me?"
All of it stung, because this is what ADHD actually feels like to me, day in, day out.
Thank you to the author.
Thank you to the narrator.
Just... thanks. <3
This book is amazing, and I will probably either buy a physical copy, or forget to do that, but feel guilty about forgetting every now and again.
This book is what having ADHD/ADD feels like. <3

The ending was so good because it was left ambiguous as to several key questions, personal questions, ones that depending on your view might not even matter when stacked up against the concepts presented.
Tl;dr: it did what good sci fi does and leaves your mind wonder.
The journey and main plot was well executed no holes or points unanswered or unfulfilled and da thang left me satisfied but the fact that it was so cool makes me regret listening to it.
Also the main character was neurodivergent (adhd with „undiagnosed Autism“), really connected with her.
I am Asperger Autistic myself and I don’t think I have ever connected with a character like this as much even in properties that more traditionally tend to be seen as attractive to people on the spectrum (Steven Universe or what have you) which is what makes me both happier and sadder than I have been with any piece of media in a long time.
Don’t think I will ever have a read like this ever again and that makes me feel somewhat hollow.
Neat stuff. 🤓
Great tale

I will not go into any detail, as I believe it would greatly take away from this experience, however, I can only recommend anyone to read this.
Natalie "Thundamoo" Maher, if you read this: Thank You. You have given me the perfect book, I would not know how to make it any better.
I'd be hard pressed if anyone finds a better book
