Fine story bad narration

One of the things I loved most about this book is that Tress is not the “chosen one.” She isn’t some lost princess, a prophesied hero, or secretly gifted with immense power. She is an ordinary girl—one who is scared, uncertain, and completely out of her depth. But instead of fate handing her a destiny, she grows. She learns. She adapts. Her courage comes not from being fearless, but from continuing forward despite her fear. That made her journey feel all the more meaningful and inspiring.
And of course, I have to mention the narrator. Hoid’s storytelling is everything. His voice is witty, sarcastic, and at times, completely ridiculous, but always insightful. His clever asides, exaggerated storytelling, and self-aware humor made this book stand out in a way that felt unique and refreshing. I was constantly laughing out loud at his dry observations and the way he twisted even simple moments into something amusing. But beyond the humor, Hoid’s narration adds an unexpected depth, making the book feel both whimsical and wise at the same time.
The setting is magical in every sense, ships sailing on dust, moons influencing different kinds of spores, and an entire system of magic that feels fresh and fascinating. But beyond the worldbuilding, what truly makes this book shine is its heart. The friendships, the quirky and lovable crew, and the constant lessons about kindness, wit, and perseverance all made this an unforgettable read.
Despite its lighthearted tone, Tress of the Emerald Sea carries weighty themes about courage, empathy, and embracing the unknown. It’s a book that balances humor with heart, making it both a joyful and meaningful experience.
As my first experience with Sanderson, this book has convinced me that I need to read more of what he creates. If the rest of his works are anything like Tress, I know I’m in for something special. 5 stars without a doubt!
Delightful, Witty, and Heartfelt Adventure

Brandon Sanderson hat mit Tress of the Emerald Sea ein Werk geschaffen, das weit über eine bloße Abenteuergeschichte hinausgeht, es ist ein lyrisches Meisterwerk. Selten habe ich ein Buch gelesen, das so spielerisch mit Sprache umgeht und dabei gleichzeitig eine so tiefgehende, faszinierende Welt innerhalb des Bekannten Universums erschafft.
Die Geschichte von Tress ist nicht nur bezaubernd und voller Herz, sondern auch getragen von einem Erzählstil, der poetisch das Herz öffnet. Sanderson schafft es, mit seiner bildhaften, humorvollen und zugleich pointierten Sprache Emotionen zu wecken, ohne jemals aufgesetzt zu wirken. Jede Seite ist ein Genuss, jede Zeile scheint sorgfältig komponiert zu sein.
Das einzig negative ist, wie schnell die Reise vorbei war. Ich hätte mir gewünscht, der Weg zu Crimson Sea wäre das Ende eines Buches gewesen, der Weg zur Witch ein zweites.
