sehr gelungene Prequel zu den anderen Büchern. Keine Spoilers direkten Spoilers allerdings würde ich trotzdem raten die ersten 3-4 Bücher zu lesen und dann auf dieses zurück zu kommen.

Einsichten in spätere Bücher

Wer sich gefragt hat, wie, wo und wann Robert Jordans Fantasy-Epos begann, findet hier die Antwort darauf, wie Moiraine Sedai sich auf die Suche nach dem Wiedergeborenen Drachen begab, der die Welt retten und verwüsten soll, wie Lan Mandragoran ihr Behüter wurde und sich ihrem verzweifelten Kampf gegen das allgegenwärtige Übel anschloss. Im Prolog zur Reihe stellt Jordan bildhaft, spannend, fantasiereich und faszinierend den Beginn der großen Saga dar.
Dieses Hörbuch eignet sich sowohl für Neulinge der Rad der Zeit Reihe als auch für begeisterte Fans, da zum einen das Ende zum Fortlesen der Reihe anregt und zum anderen Details wie die Aufnahmeprüfung für Aes Sedai endlich dargestellt werden.
Durch die ungekürzte Lesung kommen Jordans faszinierende, bildhafte Natur- und Charakterbeschreibungen sehr gut zur Geltung, auch wenn gut 11 Stunden für eine Vorgeschichte recht happig sind. Im Vergleich zu den restlichen Bänden hält sich die Dauer jedoch noch in Grenzen.
Die Aussprache ist klar und deutlich und der Inhalt gut verständlich, auch für Hörer, deren Englischkenntnisse weniger gut ausgebildet sind.

Fazit:
Für Fans der Serie so gut wie ein Muss, für Neuanfänger durchaus auch geeignet, empfehlen würde ich diesen jedoch, mit dem ersten Band 'The Wheel of Time: The Eye of the World' zu beginnen, um einen besseren Einstieg in die Haupthandlung zu bekommen.

Fantasyfaszintaion für alte und neue Leser

Non native speakers will have a small problem understanding him at times but overall you can get used to it after a while and he is not reading the majority of the chapters anyway. I suggest listening to him at 75, 80 or 85% speed. Kate sounds like a text to speech software program at times but overall she reads clearly and is better at making man's voices than Kramer is at making women's. Kate's acting is better too.

Michael Kramer has a pretty heavy American accent

I loved getting to know Lan and Moiraine and Siuan. They are there at the beginning and are Ta‘veren all by themselves! It is a must read for fans!
