My name is Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden. Conjure by it at your own risk. I'm a wizard. I work out of an office in midtown Chicago. As far as I know, I'm the only openly practicing professional wizard in the country. You can find me in the yellow pages, under Wizards. Believe it or not, I'm the only one there.

With rent past due and a decent meal becoming an issue of some importance, Harry needs work, and soon. A call from a distraught wife, and another from Lt. Murphy of the Chicago PD Special Investigation Unit makes Harry believe things are looking up, but they are about to get worse, much worse. Someone is harnessing immense supernatural forces to commit a series of grisly murders. Someone has violated the first law of magic: Thou Shalt Not Kill. Tracking that someone takes Harry into the dangerous underbelly of Chicago, from mobsters to vampires, while he himself is under suspicion of the crimes.

Am relevantesten

Was wäre für andere Hörer sonst noch hilfreich zu wissen, um das Hörbuch richtig einschätzen zu können?

Ich fand das Hörbuch gut, aber nicht extra klasse, mir hat ein bisschen das Salz in der Suppe gefehlt. Die Geschichte ist gut erzählt, war mir manchmal aber etwas zu stereotypisch für eine Detective Story (z.B. Nur gut Aussehende Frauen, eine "Typische" Barszene). Auch die Charaktere hätten ein bisschen Schliff vertragen können. Erinnerte mich sehr an die Bobby Dollar Reihe von Tad Williams, die hat mir allerdings vom Schreibstil etwas besser gefallen. Der Vorleser ist gut bis sehr gut, macht nur manchmal kleinere Kunstpausen die ich eher irritierend fand.

Trotz der "Mängel" habe ich Lust die Reihe weiter zu verfolgen und werde mir das nächste Hörbuch auch gleich runterladen.

Wer in das "übernatürlicher Detective" Genre allerdings neu einsteigt und Bobby Dollar noch nicht kennt, dem würde ich Tad Williams eher empfehlen als Jim Butcher. Vielleicht ändert sich das ja nach dem nächsten Roman! ;)

The Dresden Files is a great universe of supernatural forces in 1990s Chicago. The universe is not perfectly constructed like with high fantasy, but is still reasonably consistent and no less unbelievable or inconsistant than most movies and TV series using similar a setting. The end result is unique combination of a classic detective story and an episode of the 2000's TV series Angel told from the point of view of a wizard private I.

James Marsters voice fits perfectly into the role, just on its own his voice itself sets up a detective film noir mood, in the first books like this one he swallows a bit audibly at times, but overall he is quite competent, and he gets better and better and as the series go on.

The speaker did an okay job, but the experience was occasionally disrupted by background noises - creaking chair, pages flipping - that are wholly unnecessary. Liked the story itself a lot

Excellent audio book - fantasy noir?

I really love the Dresden Series and enjoy the audiobook because the narrator is really good. This book was great (though the ending was a little short for my taste).
I'll definitely listen to the rest of the series.
