    Inhaltsangabe

Named a New York Times notable book of 2018 and a best book of 2018 by NPR, The New York Times Book Review, Amazon, The Boston Globe, LitHub, Vulture, Slate, Elle, Vox, and Electric Literature.

“Tana French’s best and most intricately nuanced novel yet.” (The New York Times)

An “extraordinary” (Stephen King) and “mesmerizing” (LA Times) new stand-alone novel from the master of crime and suspense and author of the forthcoming novel The Searcher

From the writer who "inspires cultic devotion in readers" (The New Yorker) and has been called "incandescent" by Stephen King, "absolutely mesmerizing" by Gillian Flynn, and "unputdownable" (People), comes a gripping new novel that turns a crime story inside out.

Toby is a happy-go-lucky charmer who's dodged a scrape at work and is celebrating with friends when the night takes a turn that will change his life - he surprises two burglars who beat him and leave him for dead. Struggling to recover from his injuries, beginning to understand that he might never be the same man again, he takes refuge at his family's ancestral home to care for his dying uncle Hugo. Then a skull is found in the trunk of an elm tree in the garden - and as detectives close in, Toby is forced to face the possibility that his past may not be what he has always believed.

A spellbinding standalone from one of the best suspense writers working today, The Witch Elm asks what we become, and what we're capable of, when we no longer know who we are.

My least favorite book of this author so far

I usually love her books because of the captivating mystery, but at one point I just didn't care anymore and had a hard time finishing it. It starts out very interesting but towards the end, there was just too much piled on top.

    Sometimes like chewing gum

The story could be told in half the time... Maybe then you won't be bored.

    Rundum super!!!

    nice to fall asleep on

I might sell Tana French short, but 9 hours into the audiobook, I simply use it to conk out.
The narrator is brilliant, absolutely top notch.
But if you're used to Tana French's way, her fab stories, you can't bear this one.
Maybe if it was told in 20% of the time.... But 20 hours, Jaysus. And I still don't get it...when will the story actually kick off??

    Interesting

This book deviates from a classic criminal case novel. I would like to say it plays with the idea of being literature. Unfortunately being inside of Toby's head is torture. I still respect the author for the unique twist.

Good story with many twists and turns

A very good read. Difficult to put down, mainly because of the many twists and turns. But it has depth as well, it does not feel like the author just wanted to be smart. Characters are fleshed out and believable. Well written with a nice a flow and the performance is very nice to. I will look for more books of the same author.

Alles in allem doch noch spannend

Die ersten 2h sind irgendwie langweilig. Einzig die nicht zu erwartenden Wendungen in der Story machen das Hoerbuch dann doch noch spannend.
    Der Sprecher ist allerdings super.
