I had trouble initially as there were too many characters and all were introduced back to back. But after a few chapters I was caught up and I really enjoyed it. Although I had a pretty good idea where the story was heading and the "conclusion" did not make much sense for me personally, I still enjoyed the overall experience and would give other books in this series a try.

Im Abo inbegriffen, kann das gut sein? Und ja, ich habe die ersten Kapitel zwei mal gehört, weil ich nicht verstanden habe, dass das ein 20 Jahre Flashback war, und ja, der Sprecher fängt einen neuen Abschnitt ohne Pause an, da muss man aufpassen. Hat mir sehr gut gefallen, kann es nur weiterempfehlen!

It’s not easy to adapt a written book into the spoken word and this Audible release is a case in point. Too many characters with fake accents sometimes made concentration difficult and the keeping abreast of who’s who a challenge. Despite this, the storyline was good and were it not for the aforementioned critic, worthy of a further star for performance.

Super gesprochen! und eine spannende Geschichte mit sympathischen Figuren.
Das Ende war aber weder schlüssig noch überraschend- für mich an den Haaren herbeigezogen. Mal schauen ob das zweite Buch da besser abschneidet.

Fascinating and different main but also side character because of whom this story thrives and I just couldn’t stop shortly before the end…
The narrator does a fantastic job and takes you along in the story.

A gripping crime with a twist at the end

The story itself was interesting and good written. The problem is the quality of the recording...it is like the lector was to close to the microphone sometimes and this squishy high noise is soo annoying.

Joy Ellis schreibt im ersten Band mit viel Weitblick und führt ihre Hauptpersonen ein, Jackman mit Marie, Orac und einen jungen Polizisten, Kevin Stoner. Oracs metallische Kontaktlinsen werden erläutert und Kevins sexuelle Orientierung, die ihn (damals?) erpressbar macht.
Nur in diesem Band spielen Daniel Kinder, der als adoptiertes Kind seine Mutter sucht (Titel!), seine Freundin Skye und ein erfahrener Psychologe, Guy Preston, mit.
Wie in den folgenden Büchern legt die Autorin die Spannungskurve steil an und mit brutalen, blutigen Frauenmorden kommt der Hörer der Auflösung am Ende atemlos nahe.
Richard Armitage ist bereits im ersten Band ein begnadeter Sprecher und in seiner variablen Sprechweise großartig! Orac und Ruth Crooke bekommen ihren passenden Akzent und Rowan Jackman ist der Original Armitage Stimme sehr nahe. Wie Richard Armitage aber den schwer traumatisierten Daniel Kinder liest, sanft, ruhig und traurig, ist das "icing on the cake ". Great performance!
In jeder Hinsicht ein faszinierender Thriller, zum Glück der Hörer und Leser folgen noch 9 weitere Bände.
