Über diesen Titel
The groundbreaking first book of an epic series that has changed the face of fantasy. The Way of Kings begins The Stormlight Archive.
Speak again the ancient oaths:
Life before death.
Strength before weakness.
Journey before Destination.
Return to men the Shards they once bore.
The Knights Radiant must stand again.
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter.
It has been centuries since the fall of the ten consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor that transform ordinary men into near-invincible warriors. Men trade kingdoms for Shardblades. Wars were fought for them, and won by them.
One such war rages on a ruined landscape called the Shattered Plains. There, Kaladin, who traded his medical apprenticeship for a spear to protect his little brother, has been reduced to slavery. In a war that makes no sense, where ten armies fight separately against a single foe, he struggles to save his men and to fathom the leaders who consider them expendable.
Brightlord Dalinar Kholin commands one of those other armies. Like his brother, the late king, he is fascinated by an ancient text called The Way of Kings. Troubled by over-powering visions of ancient times and the Knights Radiant, he has begun to doubt his own sanity.
Across the ocean, an untried young woman named Shallan seeks to train under an eminent scholar and notorious heretic, Dalinar's niece, Jasnah. Though she genuinely loves learning, Shallan's motives are less than pure. As she plans a daring theft, her research for Jasnah hints at secrets of the Knights Radiant and the true cause of the war.

If you're unsure wether you should pick up the audiobook or the printed version, get the print.
If it's between the audiobook or don't pick it up at all, get the audiobook. Even with the flawed narration it'll suck you in once you got past the slow start.
Audiobook can't hold up to the book

My occupational therapist told me about The Way of Kings in a session in October of 2019, when I mentioned I loved the fantasy genre and was fresh out of material. He was knee deep in the second book and was a total fan. Since I was looking for a new book series to start - I just had went through all available Dresden Files books since March (which I very much recommend if you are into urban fantasy) - I thought I'd give it a shot.
Truthfully I struggled a bit with some of the world building and the back then seemingly uncountable amount of same sounding words (shard plate, shard blade, shard bearer, shattered planes, shh-whatever else) grouped together and the many names and stories that wouldn't make sense until later etc. Which is pretty much always a thing with the big fantasy stories though. I hadn't immersed myself into one of those for a couple of years so I needed to get back into it and it took me a while to read through the first parts. Once I got over that hurdle I loved it. A month later I had finished and started Words of Radiance. Another two weeks later I started Oathbringer.
Since I don't like reviews containing spoilers I only say this. The main characters are brilliant, the "side characters" are amazing, the story unfolding is great and it all sucks you into this vast universe before you know it and leaves you wanting for more.
Thankfully Brandon Sanderson is a quick writer, with a large team beside him and a million stories in his head so there's hundreds of hours of material if you liked this.
My favorite, other than the SA Saga, is Warbreaker. Wouldn't have guessed so at first. But really fell in love with it. Also I'm not into sci-fi stuff strictly speaking but craving more BS (lol) stories brought me to the Reckoners saga and I devoured all those books as well.
So go read a(nother) Sanderson book. I dare you. ^^
One of my favorite fantasy books

Faszinierend! Intelligent!

But after 2 hours I find myself really invested in the story, world and characters and can't stop listening.
The male speakers voice might seem flat but really it is expressive with a wide variety of voices. The female speaker is really good as well. Some names are silly but the world is very interesting.
After you get into it...
