Über diesen Titel

The groundbreaking first book of an epic series that has changed the face of fantasy. The Way of Kings begins The Stormlight Archive.

Speak again the ancient oaths:

Life before death.
Strength before weakness.
Journey before Destination.
Return to men the Shards they once bore.

The Knights Radiant must stand again.

Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter.

It has been centuries since the fall of the ten consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor that transform ordinary men into near-invincible warriors. Men trade kingdoms for Shardblades. Wars were fought for them, and won by them.

One such war rages on a ruined landscape called the Shattered Plains. There, Kaladin, who traded his medical apprenticeship for a spear to protect his little brother, has been reduced to slavery. In a war that makes no sense, where ten armies fight separately against a single foe, he struggles to save his men and to fathom the leaders who consider them expendable.

Brightlord Dalinar Kholin commands one of those other armies. Like his brother, the late king, he is fascinated by an ancient text called The Way of Kings. Troubled by over-powering visions of ancient times and the Knights Radiant, he has begun to doubt his own sanity.

Across the ocean, an untried young woman named Shallan seeks to train under an eminent scholar and notorious heretic, Dalinar's niece, Jasnah. Though she genuinely loves learning, Shallan's motives are less than pure. As she plans a daring theft, her research for Jasnah hints at secrets of the Knights Radiant and the true cause of the war.

Corrupted audiofiles (Stuttering, Static, Skipping) on Audible is a first for me. Also very disappointing that a married couple seemingly can't decided on how to pronounce names like "Sadeas". The world is rather complex, different pronunciations for character names and places don't make it easier to follow along. I love Michael Kramer, but I just can't bring myself to like Kate Reading.
If you're unsure wether you should pick up the audiobook or the printed version, get the print.
If it's between the audiobook or don't pick it up at all, get the audiobook. Even with the flawed narration it'll suck you in once you got past the slow start.

Audiobook can't hold up to the book

looking forward to the following parts. At first confusing, but then the story reveals the greatness of itself

great begin of an epic story

Incredible story. Well read. Would be nice if the readers could agree on how to pronounce names though.

😂👌

I had to skip all the parts from the story where the woman was reading. unfortunately it was always in the exact same melody, and it was unbearable, so I do not know the storyline from the apprentice.

The story is amazing , unfortunately I could not hear the parts where the women read it

For the first 2 hours I was really sceptical. The Speaker seems really monotone and the world building seems kind of contrived with silly, hard to remember names.

But after 2 hours I find myself really invested in the story, world and characters and can't stop listening.

The male speakers voice might seem flat but really it is expressive with a wide variety of voices. The female speaker is really good as well. Some names are silly but the world is very interesting.

After you get into it...

The story might even be slower than the start of "Mistborn" but it is well worth the time. Sanderson is preparing to dive into the other parts of the story - can't wait - and this is well done in this first part. The battle of the bridge-carriers and how one man can make a difference in this magic forsaken world is just brilliant. Only small bits of magic are left and these are not visible to all, leave alone to use them. There are shards of it still around but the full extend of their impact was lost.
Stay with it. The end will award you.The magic is growing again ...

Slow at the beginning but mighty in the end

10/10 - seriously
The story is incredibly gripping, the details of the various worlds are astonishing, the characters and their struggles keep one at the edge of one‘s seat trough the entirety of the 45 hours!!
Even though the beginning might seem confusing at first, the following gem(heart) of a story explains everything.
Buying the second book now.

Absolute banger

At first i was a little sceptic about all the good reviews. I had purchased Skyward book 1 finding it interesting, before I finished it i had purchased the whole collection. Then at book two i realized that it's nothing for me. Seeing all the positive reviews on the Way of king's and knowing that it's the same author i wasn't convinced at first, i had however added it to my watchlist. At some point i had an extra Audible credit left, so i purchased this first book (: Love'd it so far, I've already bought two more book from this collection but I won't rush buying the full collection just yet( but I might if the next two are as entangling as The Way of Kings).

Great story and performance from the narrator's.
