I had my heart hanging through the whole book

Wow, what an amazing follow up in the Ash and Blood series. I pre-ordered the book before it was released but immediately began to hear harsh critic the day it officially came out. And I hate to say that those negative reviews kept me from starting it right away, not wanting to disappoint myself, because this is one of my favorite series, with one of my most beloved characters - Casteel.

But I'm glad I eventually caved, deciding I needed to know what happens and see what people were whining about. I was hooked immediately. I was so happy for all the Poppy and Casteel we got, the weaving of both the B&A world with the F&F characters coming in and out through the book. Surprises were dealt, previous questions answered and more questions coming to life. Were there frustrating and confusing moments? Yes, of course. But I know these things will be addressed and resolved in the last book, which I'm pleased will be released in the spring 2026.

Dont let other people's opinions over this book and beloved characters sway you from reading / listening to Blood And Bone. The only disappointing thing I found was that this series isn't done as a duet, which is something I really love, but that's just a personal preference. It's Chef Kiss.

Die erste beiden Teilen waren wirklich gut, Dann wurde für meinen Geschmack mal wieder zu viel mit Sex gefüllt, scheint ja mittlerweile so Usus zu sein, leider und dann wird alles noch mal aus anderer Perspektive erzählt. Mit diesem Teil dachte ich jetzt es gibt ein vernünftiges Ende, aber ehrlicherweise war es mehr Wiederholung als alles andere. Man kann so eine Geschichte auch nervig in die Länge ziehen. Wirklich schade

I can't decide wether I'm distraught or annoyed

Man hätte die Serie sicher zu einem schönen Ende bringen können. Stattdessen wirkt es wie ein belangloser Zwischenband der auf irgendetwas vorbereiten soll. Die wenige Handlung wäre besser in einem viertel der Hörbuchlänge verpackt worden.

Casteel’s entire vocabulary seems to be just “fuck,” while Poppy’s stuck on “oh my gods.” Like… are these supposed to be ancient, powerful beings or hormonal teenagers at a sleepover? There’s zero action, just endless talking that goes absolutely nowhere. By chapter 13 I felt like I’d aged a century and so did the plot (except it never moved). Honestly, this book didn’t need to exist. Couldn’t even finish it.

Dafuq happend Here. I am listening to an audiobook set in the 16. Century and suddenly the Protegonist is in modern day New York?!

I loved all the other books (OK, the overload of talking has always been a problem...), but this one is right out horrible. Pure torture.

Besides them spending 30% of the book in the same room and poppy being asleep again, ch.12 (where poppy visits modern NYC!?) kills it for me. Worst: the triangle relationship of Cas, Poppy and Keiran (one of the main columns of the saga) is strained over an petty feud and basically breaks. The ending is no ending (what happens to Colis?? + another book coming? really??)

And as if all of this weren't enough, there is something wrong with the audiofile of chapter 60 or Keiran's speaker swallows hole words/ sentences?

I am so disappointed. So frustrating. Phew.

Considering that what feels like 80% of this book is repeated conversations in bedrooms there's a surprising amount of miscommunication. I loved the start of the series and Flesh and Fire, but this book was thoroughly disappointing. So much text, yet so little plot.
