I enjoyed this book very much. It deals with heavy topics and some details are very graphic, even though most of it is only referenced. The world building is amazing and I loved the characters. The story is fast paced with banter and action, but still the character moments were very well placed.

The narrator did an outstanding job at the character voices.

I bought the sequel when I had 2 hours left to listen and now that I'm done, I do not regret this at all :) Looking forward to the rest of the series!

Heavy topics, but great read

Lang war das Buch auf meiner Leseliste und irgendwie war ich skeptisch – ich schäme mich für meine Oberflächlichkeit, denn das Cover hat mich abgeschreckt; ich geb es zu. Ugh. Die Cover der zwei folgenden Romane sind viel ansehnlicher, tbh.

Mir viel es ein wenig schwer in die Geschichte reinzukommen und die erste Zeit war ich mir wirklich nicht sicher, ob ich das Buch mögen würde. Dann wurde es plötzlich mega gut, dann war ich mir wieder unsicher und dann wurde es wieder gut und blieb konstant sehr nice. Hach, was ein Abenteuer.
Letztendlich bin ich voll begeistert und mittlerweile schon an Band zwei dran und möchte an sich gern die Taschenbücher im Regal stehen haben. #goodbyemymoney

Die ganze Geschichte um New Atlantis allein ist schon spannend – auch das Magiesystem finde ich toll; aber die Geheimnisse, die alle noch in Rune versteckt sind, haben mich am Ende wohl wirklich gekriegt. Kleine Informationen werden von K.D. Edwards so intelligent eingestreut, dass ich gar nicht anders kann, als weiterzulesen. Unerhört!
Wie gesagt, ich finde das Magiesystem sehr angenehm und die Geschichte um die einzelnen „Häuser“ noch faszinierender. UND ganz großer Pluspunkt ist das Urban Fantasy Genre. Ich liebe die ganzen popkulturellen Dinge und wie dann plötzlich ein Smartphone und so genutzt wird. Da prallen einfach zwei Welten auf wundervoll verwobene Art und Weise zusammen. Richtig gut gemacht.

Auch die Charaktere sind wundervoll geschrieben und ich habe wohl alle Hauptcharaktere, sowie wichtige Nebencharaktere sind Herz geschlossen. Ich liebe all die Beziehungen, die sie untereinander haben und die sie aufbauen.
Vor allem das Band zwischen Rune und Brand finde ich extrem spannend und toll ausgearbeitet.
Vergessen wir aber bitte nicht Quinn, Max und Addam. Und Lord Tower – ich will mehr über ihn erfahren!

Durch und durch gelungen, auch wenn ich Startschwierigkeiten hatte. <3

I read this book a while ago and really enjoyed how fast-paced the story was. I feel like listening to it in an audio format added so much to the experience; the narrator Josh Hurley has an amazing vocal range and is one of the best audiobook narrators I've ever experienced. The cadence, the emotional range, the tonal range..! So good!

Love the story and absolutely loved the narrator

A fantasy world - new and innovative enough to surprise - but well-known enough to immediately feel at home in . A good plot, an endearing hero and great side-kick. Time flew by and and I really could not turn it off - it had me hooked from the start. A great intro into a new series - can't wait for part 2.

At the time of writing this review this book has some outstanding reviews. I don't know what book they read by this one was boring. The characters and plot aren't intresting and hold no weight.
