I really really liked this series! the fast paced language, the very different characters, unexpected twists, emotions. some of the violence scenes were almost too cruel for me, but the emotional scenes outweight this! thrilling sports descriptions too! an unexpected gem!

Ein haufer gestörter Jugendlicher, die eine Familie ineinander finden. Gutes Tempo über alle drei Bände verteilt und bis zum Schluss genial.

Ob selber gelesene (schon zweimal) oder als Hörbuch, diese Buchreihe ist einfach Klasse und nimmt mich immer wieder gefangen.

… the narration doesn’t do the book and story justice. It’s monotone and makes it near impossible to decipher between characters. The ‘bro-dude’ tone completely misses the depth of these characters and their heavy stories. Also, the female voices are an abomination! I might have to read the physical book when I find the time, cause I do like the story as weird as it may be.

Those books are horrendously unrealistic and an absolute mess of a story.
I would not ever recommend them to anybody ever.
They are the best thing I've ever read.

They are an absolute mess, I'm obsessed with the characters, they are all horrible people.
I would sell an organ to experience reading them for the first time again, none of it makes any goddamn sense and you cannot put those books down once started. they are objectivly bad and yet, my favorite book series up to date.

the best and worst thing I've ever read

Phew, what a book. It took me a really long time to decide whether I liked it or not.

The writing style is pleasant, even fun. I especially liked the fast pacing during the Exy game!

What I have my problems with are the characters and the drama.
So far, the characters are still very flat and lack depth for me. You could even say I don't care about most of them. (Except for Andrew, because I have a soft spot for psychos).
I just hope they grow on me in the next books.

The other thing is the substance abuse thing, the violence thing, the social thing. Things are tolerated there that simply shouldn't be. I also don't understand the thing about psychotropic drugs. You don't come down from your level so quickly to be completely clean again if you take the stuff every day. It's not very conclusive, in my opinion.

Then there's Neil's background story. What I think about it now and his handling of it... mhm ... the boy is and remains probably a (tired) teenager and has this naivety that I would like to shake out of him.

However, I would find the whole thing pretty crazy and cool (even if unrealistic) as fan fiction for already existing characters. That's why I want to give the project a chance and will read on.
Besides, I love the little monster. <3

I have read and listened to the AFTG Series over 7 times now.
Every time when life gets rough I open audible or open the book “The Foxhole Court” and start the whole Journey through this Series.
It never gets boring and brings me so much joy and comfort. I would’ve never guessed that “a book about mafia sports and gay found family” (my sisters quote) would someday be so important to me.
I don’t care about any (mostly valid) criticism.
These books stole my sensitive little heart and will keep it forever.
The narrators voice and tone match this book so good as well!
I got a tattoo of a fox a few years back and I built a fucking shrine for the three books!
Can’t wait for an audio version of The sunshine Court as well. (Banger Book! Might have to make space for a second shrine soon)
Anyways. I’m obsessed. No topic discussion and analytical dissection from me. Just emotion.
