Neil Josten is the newest addition to the Palmetto State University Exy team. He's short, he's fast, he's got a ton of potential - and he's the runaway son of the murderous crime lord known as the Butcher.
Signing a contract with the PSU Foxes is the last thing a guy like Neil should do. The team is high profile, and he doesn't need sports crews broadcasting pictures of his face around the nation. His lies will hold up only so long under this kind of scrutiny, and the truth will get him killed.
But Neil's not the only one with secrets on the team. One of Neil's new teammates is a friend from his old life, and Neil can't walk away from him a second time.
Neil has survived the last eight years by running. Maybe he's finally found someone and something worth fighting for.

fast paced, interesting character development

The writing style is pleasant, even fun. I especially liked the fast pacing during the Exy game!
What I have my problems with are the characters and the drama.
So far, the characters are still very flat and lack depth for me. You could even say I don't care about most of them. (Except for Andrew, because I have a soft spot for psychos).
I just hope they grow on me in the next books.
The other thing is the substance abuse thing, the violence thing, the social thing. Things are tolerated there that simply shouldn't be. I also don't understand the thing about psychotropic drugs. You don't come down from your level so quickly to be completely clean again if you take the stuff every day. It's not very conclusive, in my opinion.
Then there's Neil's background story. What I think about it now and his handling of it... mhm ... the boy is and remains probably a (tired) teenager and has this naivety that I would like to shake out of him.
However, I would find the whole thing pretty crazy and cool (even if unrealistic) as fan fiction for already existing characters. That's why I want to give the project a chance and will read on.
Besides, I love the little monster. <3

Every time when life gets rough I open audible or open the book “The Foxhole Court” and start the whole Journey through this Series.
It never gets boring and brings me so much joy and comfort. I would’ve never guessed that “a book about mafia sports and gay found family” (my sisters quote) would someday be so important to me.
I don’t care about any (mostly valid) criticism.
These books stole my sensitive little heart and will keep it forever.
The narrators voice and tone match this book so good as well!
I got a tattoo of a fox a few years back and I built a fucking shrine for the three books!
Can’t wait for an audio version of The sunshine Court as well. (Banger Book! Might have to make space for a second shrine soon)
