Absurd bis herzzerreißend

Sex und Flüche. Damit muss man auf jeden Fall zurechtkommen, wenn man dieses Buch hört/liest. Es wird sehr viel über Sex gesprochen und geflucht wie ein Seemann. Die Hauptcharaktere sind natürlich alle männlich und - soweit sie sexuell definiert sind - schwul. Und dieses Buch ist einfach sooooo absurd. Ich fand es großartig! Ein schwules Einhorn und ein Zauberlehrling, den jeder und alles flach legen will. Es war wirklich lustig. Aber an vielen Stellen auch einfach süß und herzzerreißend. Zwei Liebende, die nicht merken, wie sehr der andere einen will, und die aufgrund der Umstände nicht zusammen sein können. Das klingt erst einmal kitschig, aber man darf das Absurde nicht vergessen.

Leider fand ich den Schluss etwas langatmig. Aber das hat dem Hörvergnügen keinen Abbruch getan. Obwohl ich nach dem ersten Kapitel erst mal nicht mehr weiter hören wollte - mich hatte der Sprecher zu dem Zeitpunkt nicht überzeugt - habe ich doch sehr schnell begonnen, in jeder freien Minute das Hörbuch an zu machen.

Was hat Ihnen das Hörerlebnis von The Lightning-Struck Heart besonders unterhaltsam gemacht?

Das Buch war ja schon sehr schräg und lustig, obwohl ich es beim Lesen teils überdreht fand aber die Hörbuchumsetzung ist einfach große Klasse. Es lebt.

Was mochten Sie an der Handlung am liebsten?

Es ist halt eine lustige Liebes - und Freundschaftsgeschichte mit Fabelwesen und Happy End. Prima. Eine Geschichte zum Wohlfühlen. Auch wenn es mit der Liebe erstmal schwierig ist, hat Sam doch immer die volle Unterstützung seiner Freunde und Familie.

Wie hat Ihnen Michael Lesley als Sprecher gefallen? Warum?

Der Sprecher war super. Die vielen Persönlichkeiten, die er darstellen "musste", hat er alle lebendig und einzigartig gemacht. Ganz, ganz toll. Die coolste Stimme hatte Kevin, der Drache. Obwohl es ja 1:1 der gleiche Text ist, war ich mit dem Hörbuchende viel zufriedener als mit dem Buchende aus "meiner Lesersicht".

Hätten Sie das Hörbuch am liebsten in einem Rutsch durchgehört?

Ja, am liebsten hätte ich es durchgehört. Bei 19 Stunden allerdings nicht schaffbar und schon gar nicht mit Familie im Hintergrund.

Was wäre für andere Hörer sonst noch hilfreich zu wissen, um das Hörbuch richtig einschätzen zu können?

Wer auf eine lustige Geschichte mit schrägen Helden steht und sich an einer schwulen Liebesgeschichte nicht stört, kann sich nur köstlich amüsieren. Ja, ok, Englisch sollte man natürlich auch können.

Unglaublich gut!

Ich hatte zuerst das Buch gelesen bevor ich das Hörbuch gekauft habe, also wusste ich, dass die Story gut ist. Jedoch hatte ich bei Hörbüchern bisher immer Pech gehabt. Da ich noch nicht so gut englisch verstehe ( ich kann es sehr gut lesen) müsste ich den Sprecher auch wirklich verstehen können. Das war das erste Hörbuch, dass mir wirklich gefallen hat. Es kam nur selten vor, dass ich etwas akustisch nicht verstanden habe.

Absurd and funny and totally worth it

I listened to the sample and was intrigued, so I ended up getting it. I regret nothing.

I usually don't listen to or read stories that are quite so exaggerated and dramatic, but since I've read some other works of the author and had to laugh because the voices seemed perfect for what was being said, I gave it a try.

The story seems cliché and the pining is awkward for everyone involved and at times soooo frustrating, but the whole thing is written so well, that I didn't mind it one bit. It is so well written that it all flows and fits together perfectly and the characters are fun but not just the butt of a joke.
I wasn't sure at first whether I would be reading the entire series, but since this book was so much fun, I probably will. For anyone who doesn't want that kind of commitment though, this one can probably be a standalone book as well, as there is no intense cliffhanger or whatnot.

The book is read in exaggerated and perfectly fitting voices for the individual characters that were as much of a joy to listen to as the story as a whole, and the tone at times was so full of emotion that other audio books I've listened to in the past pale in comparison. Superb job all around.

Terrible, like very seriously, not good

It starts with a 15 min (maybe longer, I couldn't stand to listen to it anymore) boring conversation about Sex. Zero story, zero character introduction. Either this is the worst 1st chapter ever or the entire book is garbage. I'm guessing the latter and give up.

The wit, the ease and the ability to weave this hearty, gay love story into an otherwise classic heroes journey is sooooo listenable!

Gay Disney

In my head this Story was played out in a comic style like these in Disney movies. Very funny and dramatic and there wehre nearly no Character that i didn't like, even the bad guys wehre kinda sweet in there misguided ways (exept that Cult leader).

Hilarious

just. brilliant.
the story had me in stitches due in no small part to the brilliant narration by Michael Leslie. the voices are so very distinct and the meandering conversations the characters have so sassy and funny.... just pure love.
at the heart there is some fantasy quest and a love story but really it seems to be mainly TJ Klune having fun coming up with the most outrageous characters and the dumbest sex puns.

I don't think I will get over this story too quickly. just loved them all so much!
