Über diesen Titel

A Warhammer 40,000 novel.

The Emperor's Spears are a Chapter on the edge of destruction, last watchmen over the Elara's Veil nebula. Now, the decisions of one man, Amadeus Kaias Incarius of the Mentor Legion, will determine the Chapter's fate....

Listen to it because:

Aaron Dembski-Bowden has turned his attention to creating (and maybe destroying) a Space Marine Chapter in detail, and this is your chance to discover their fate.

The story:

The scattered worlds of the Elara's Veil nebula were once protected by the oath of unity sworn by three mighty Chapters of the Adeptus Astartes. The Star Scorpions were undone by flaws in their genetic coding. The Celestial Lions were ravaged by the Inquisition for sins they did not commit. Now, after hundreds of years, only the Emperor's Spears still keep their vigil. They are barbarian watchmen against the Outer Dark, bloodied but unbroken in their long duty.

Amadeus Kaias Incarius, a brother of the Mentor Legion, is commanded to cross the Great Rift and assess the Spears' war-readiness, only to be drawn into the chaotic plight of a depleted crusade on the Imperium's benighted frontier. The decisions he makes, far from the God-Emperor's light, will decide the fate of the war-torn Chapter.

Written by Aaron Dembski-Bowden. Running time 11 hours and 46 minutes. Performed by Kelly Hotten.

Very good but please let the male Voices be spoken

For the Emperor!

Grandios

Very nice story! only problem i had was with the speaker sometimes. I am not sexist but she sounded kinda silly in some places, trying to imitate a dark man voice with accent.. i think sometimes it felt a little forced and overdone. but overall I enjoyed the book very much!

Very good!

A fun book about a unique chapter of Space Marines and their visitor from the Mentor Legion.
The book does a great job of showing how different the cultures of multiple Space Marine Chapters can be, even if they are drevied from the same gene-seed. Story is told from the POV of a chapter serf.
The book has some sections that are a bit slow at the beginning and in the middle, but nothing that has too big of an impact on the flow of the overall tale. I only have some very minor issues with some of the stuff that is a bit over-the-top, even for Warhammer 40.000 (A chapter serf with access to Vortex grenades is bit much....), but that might just be my personal nerdiness overreacting.
Furthermore, there are some cross-refernces to other ADB novels, such as "Sanctus Reach", giving a nice "ah!" moment to readers/listeners that know these stories. However, it is not necessary to have read them in order to understand this book, as it stands well on its own. However, if you are not familiar with the Warhammer 40.000 universe, I would say that this book is not a good entry point, as one would be quite lost without the background knowledge.

The reader of this audiobook also gave a great performance, especially in the last third of the book, when the main character is going through some serious emotional distress. If there is a sequell (which seems highly likely), I hope Kelly Hotten will be back to narrate that one as well.

Another great Space Marine Story by ADB

The story revolves about a female chapter thrall and her misfortunes. As a side story you learn a bit about the Spears and the Mentors. The female speaker is not bad but a female voice speaking for Space Marines is a no-go for me.

Boring story about a female chapter thrall
