A Warhammer 40,000 novel.
The death of Lord Azariel, head of the Navigator House Brobantis, draws his widow into a dark world of ritual killings and cult murders, while larger plans are at work and entire worlds are threatened....
Listen to it because:
Delve into the murky politics of the Navigator houses with a novel packed full of murder, conspiracy and warp-borne threats.
The story:
Lord Azariel, Head of the Navigator House Brobantis, is dead. His widow and murderer, the Lady Chettamandey, stands to inherit his power and influence. Her plans for ascension are curtailed when she’s drawn into a dark world of ritual killings and cult murders. With planets being dragged into the warp seemingly at a whim, the threat to Chettamandey’s legacy is dire, and only she can avert potential disaster.

Overall I'm very happy with the story itself, despite perhaps a few minor flaws here and there, and the voice acting and narration are superb. If you're looking for a more cerebral 40K experience rooted in a real and grounded cast of flawed characters then look no further.
A thrilling take on Navigators and Chaos

A great book if you're interested in the sci-fi/Warhammer setting.
Exceptional

Well good news, all main characters (expect the villain of course) are cast from this mold. It gets worse as the story goes on: The tough independent females increasingly bitch-fight about who is the alpha-chick of the bunch, while the story (something about a planed being pulled into the warp by a mean man) fades into the background. The problem with having a bunch of Mary Sues is that they can handle everything (despite the lack of y chromosomes) and hence no stakes are present. The author seems to be aware of this and gives one of them a slight disability: She has trouble walking. Since the character in question is still a rich, super-smart space wizard, this handicap pauses little practical problems. It just means that Madame wizard is constantly complaining at the reader about her plight.
I could not bring myself to listen to the last 45 minutes of this cringe-fest, but up to this point no one important had died, there were no stakes and I did not care about red-shirts being murdered, the planet being in danger or the high school drama between the main characters.
Boring assortment of woke tropes
