Über diesen Titel

A Warhammer Crime audio.

Murder in the neutral zone between Imperial and Adeptus Mechanicus territory sets Probator Symeon Noctis on a dangerous investigation.

Listen to it because: discover tensions between Imperial servants on Varangantua as an extremely odd pair of detectives seeks to solve a murder.

The story: born into riches, Probator Symeon Noctis attempts to atone for his past sins by championing the powerless of Nearsteel district. But the sprawling city of Varangantua is uncaring of its masses, and when a bisected corpse is discovered in the neutral zone between Nearsteel and the Adeptus Mechanicus enclave of Steelmound, Noctis finds himself cast into his most dangerous case yet.

Partnering with the tech-priest Rho-1 Lux of the Collegiate Extremis, Noctis is drawn into a murky world of tech-heresy, illegal servitors and exploitation that could end his career or his life.

Written by Guy Haley. Narrated by James Mcnaughton.

Guy Haley has written Many good warhammer books in the past years. The past ones about the Indominus Crusade were however not among my favourites. I assume this is probably due to the - in my opinion - not so great story ark of the new warhammer era. This Novel - which does not portray the great events in the 41st millennium - focuses instead on smaller events and by this creates a more intense atmosphere and gives a more in-depth look into warhammer universe. especially the characters in the book are very well portrayed (even more so when they are brought to life by macnaughtons voice - which also compliments the sense of humour of the main character). Very recommendable -
I hope there will be more stories about Noctis

Great characters - which are superbly narrated by James Macnaughton

I enjoyed this book a lot. As much as I enjoy the constant warfronts and heroic deeds (or warcrimes) of the (anti-) heroes of the 40k universe, I have a soft spot for the stories that show us the grim realities of the more civilian life in the imperium. Guy Haley created a thoroughly entertaining whodunit, with strong characters, that shines light on the often overlooked, but peerlessly grimdark element of 40k: the servitors. He did an excellent job crafting this planet, with a couple of scenes that haunted my nightmares. James Mcnaughton does not need to hide behind the greats like Keeble, doing a superb job capturing the comparatively more human protagonist in this book. His Co narrator equally does a great job preforming the emotionless delivery of an admech, that still hints at more humanity, than she would likely be comfortable showing. Overall strong recommend.

Murder in the gritty streets of the imperium

The story is a must hear/read. We learn, thanks to Noctis, so many new and in this kind not so often published aspects of the „ordinary“ and „upper class“ life in our beloved Imperium. Here even money is a topic (which is not so often used). All this while criminal cases, hostage and murderer, is tried to be solved.
Furthermore Noctis‘ teamup with the Adeptus Mechanicus helps to better understand how human (beware of Heresy, hehe) these kind of Priests still are.

So, hear/read the story, you will enjoy it. Remember: The Emperor protects.

Great story, great narrator

Author is called Guy Haley, not Hayley. Audible do your job.
Storywise good, mediocre crime novel, very good 40k lorewise
