Der Roman ist nicht so gut wie der erste Teil. Dies hat viele Gründe und daran kann auch nicht der gelungene Kunstgriff etwas ändern, dass dieses Mal die zweiten Spieler, die anderen Figuren zentrale Rollen spielen. Ja, sogar für das Ende notwendig sind, weil es eine Coop-Mission/Level gibt. Es rettet das Buch auch nicht, dass die Bezüge dieses Mal viel populärer sind. Bei weitem nicht so obskur, aber eben auch so genial, wie im ersten Teil – Wo man nachschlägt, was es ist und es feiert, wenn man es kennt.
Vielmehr geschieht alles mit der zentralen Figur und er steht in weiten Teilen als Idiot da. Die Funktionsfiguren müssen ihm helfen. Aber es bleibt seine Geschichte, nicht die Geschichte der zweiten Spieler. Auch geschieht alles abrupt und es bleibt keine Zeit für Entwicklung. Schließlich bleibt auch das Potential der neuen Figuren ungenutzt. Sie dürfen am Ende nur die „Hilfsarbeiten machen“. So werden alle Figuren erniedrigt.
Es wäre fantastisch, wenn der Kunstgriff funktioniert hätte, vielleicht lohnt es sich das Buch für dieses Potential – für diese Fantasie – zu lesen.

the main story itself is very intriguing in my opinion. a story that has been told many times in many different ways. but nonetheless has always been very interesting.
the speaker isn't as good as the German counterpart but still better than most.

the only downside for me is, that there were too many references to things I've never heard of. but that's a personal issue.

yes, the story is a bit predictable. I still live the story and its ending. I still live the nerdiness even though I do see the weaknesses in the story itself.

Ready player two is just like ready player one: A nerdfest of popculture and it should be seen and consumed like this. With that in mind I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Wenn ein zweiter Teil eines so grandiösen Werkes rauskommt ist man immer skeptisch, aber Ernest hat absolut geliefert! Die Story ist spannend, abwechslungsreich und steht dem ersten Teil in nichts nach. Absolut empfehlenswert.

Tolle und viel tiefgründigere Fortsetzung des ersten Teils. Will Wheaton (Wesley Crusher) als Vorleser macht seine Sache gut und ist ganz schön Meta.

seems like a forced prequel. has some good ideas but can't really deliver or fully explore them. interesting things are left in the dust while other segments keep dragging on for what seems like forever. I absolutely loved RP1 and recommended it to my friends. I will not recommend this to them..
reading by Wil Wheaton was alright because it fits the theme really well and is believable throughout expect the accent part we will not talk about...

"Ready Player One" war mir aufgrund seiner zahllosen Anspielungen und des abgedrehten Settings frisch und originell erschienen. Das bewährte Schnitzeljagd-Motiv war geschickt in die Welt der Nerd-Kultur eingebaut worden. Nicht zuletzt dank Will Wheatons tollen Vortrags auch heute noch für mich eine Hörempfehlung. Die spätere Verfilmung hat die Buchvorlage übrigens geschickt verändert, um die Mittel des Films besser auszureizen. Da hatte jemand mitgedacht. Leider kann ich diese Fortsetzung nicht empfehlen. Die Charaktere bleiben allesamt blasse Staffage und das Schnitzeljagd-Motiv ist eine uninspirierte thematische Wiederholung. Schlimm wiegt, dass diesmal komplett die Originalität fehlt, die über Schwächen in der Handlung des ersten Teils noch hat hinwegsehen lassen. "Ready Player Two" ist eine billige Selbstkopie, vermutlich weil der Autor nach dem Erfolg des ersten Buchs noch mal schnell Kasse machen wollte, und nicht, weil er eine neue tolle Idee hatte. Lediglich Will Wheaton macht einen gewohnt guten Job, aber umschreiben kann er das Buch ja leider nicht.

Enjoyed ready player one and armada so was looking forward to this. The story is disappointingly dull and drags on and if I ever have to hear will Wheaton say the words inventory or avatar again I will scream.
