    Inhaltsangabe

The highly anticipated sequel to Audible's Best of 2016 - Science Fiction winner, We Are Legion (We Are Bob); a book listeners are calling "so much fun", "what science fiction was meant to be", and what would happen if "Andy Weir and Ernest Cline had a lovechild".

Bob Johansson didn't believe in an afterlife, so waking up after being killed in a car accident was a shock. To add to the surprise, he is now a sentient computer and the controlling intelligence for a Von Neumann probe.

Bob and his copies have been spreading out from Earth for 40 years now, looking for habitable planets. But that's the only part of the plan that's still in one piece. A system-wide war has killed off 99.9 percent of the human race; nuclear winter is slowly making the Earth uninhabitable; a radical group wants to finish the job on the remnants of humanity; the Brazilian space probes are still out there, still trying to blow up the competition; and the Bobs have discovered a spacefaring species that sees all other life as food.

Bob left Earth anticipating a life of exploration and blissful solitude. Instead he's become a sky god to a primitive native species, the only hope for getting humanity to a new home, and possibly the only thing that can prevent every living thing in the local sphere from ending up as dinner.

Listener favorite Ray Porter returns to narrate Bob - and his many incarnations - in all of their geeky glory.

For We Are Many is the second installment in the blockbuster Audible Original Bobiverse series - which has sold more than one million copies.

Good follow-up with some production issues

Let's begin with the good stuff: the story is still very interesting (and sometimes thought-provoking), Ray Porter still provides a great Admiral Ackbar rendition. if you liked the first one, you will like this one as well.

I'm not going to spoil the story, but this second installment is not as laugh-out-loud funny as the first one. Our narrators deal with some pretty heavy issues.

However, the audiobook production has some pretty bad quality issues. It seems that roughly 5% of random sentences were re-recorded on noticably worse equipment. The switch between qualities is quite jarring.

    Recording with glitches

As with the first book, story and narration are well executed. However, this recording has sone glitches. For instance, it's audible (no pun intended) at various places that the narrator accidentally skipped a word, upon which the recording would be halted, rewound a but, and done again. The effect of this being carried out sloppily is something like "[...] there was a s... very strange [...]", i.e., the S is clearly audible.

The worst glitch, though, occurs in Chapter 50 at 09:50, where part of a paragraph is missing. I made sure that it's not a transmission issue by re-downloading the audiobook.

This recording definitely gas room for improvement, and I'm looking forward to revising my rating after Audible updated this audiobook.

    Even more Bobs

Continues the story from pt. 1 with the same breathtaking pace. A very good read. However, the speaker pronounces several words differently than in Legion. The inconsistency can be quite irritating.

    bob does not aprove

    Sehr empfehlenswert!

    Great book, good performance

There are a few segments recorded by a different reader, or in a different studio though.

A huge disappointment after the first book

After thoroughly enjoying the first book, I came back for more. Sadly, this book has a lot of limitations. First, the new technology introduced is very limited. Mostly it is "oh we have to make more of this". Second, where there was a start of differentiation of the Bobs in the last book (e.g., Mario being a loner) and of conflict (Riker and Homer), here they are all pretty much the same and just get along perfectly. Third, the enemies always act in a manner that marks them as completely evil justifying extreme action, while Bob is always just. Fourth, there are no competent women. Only caretaker and potential romantic interests. Even for the children, only the sons seem to be of interest, and the rest is sort of "there". The one exception that I had hoped would give the story depth was reduced to a romantic interest, sidelining her other abilities. This made listening painful and diminished my view on the author. At the very least the reason should be explained. Fifth, a lot of situations are stereotypical (the muscle guy and the genius with the good genes) to an extent that even the Protagonist must recognize it. Sixth, when Bob has to save a civilization he goes for two ideal rural cities in the most America-like country of the planet. Come on! This is just very lazy writing and so unnecessary. There was so much potential and I was so happy to finally have found another humorous sci-fi write. Apparently Dennis E. Taylor is not it.

Great audio book with minor issues

Some Audio Quality issues here and there as if the speaker wasn't recorded well enough or the microphone was standing too far away. The Story and Speaker are great though.
