This is an intelligently written political who-dunnit that gradually unfolds like a flower. It has a strong, well timed and crafted plot with intriguing character development that is reflective and philosophical. It’s got a ‘military’ tag. I wouldn’t call it a military space opera. It’s a court of the emperor mystery centred on a coming alien invasion and potentially game changing technology owned by a desperate minnow society. If you like Adrian Tchykovsky or NK Jemisin this is for you.

Great book, brilliant voice work.

Though not strictly hard sci-fi, this political thriller takes place in a science fiction universe rich enough to present some very interesting ideas, especially about the nature of mind and identity.
