This was really immersive. Beautifully written and narrated, I was completely absorbed in this world of myth.

Following the cleric who visits late emperesses residence, we uncover bits and pieces of the story. The old woman called rabbit tells the cleric about her years in service and the cleric is surprised by the secrets she gives away.

I didn't get what is the clerics purpose. It seems she/they is there to record the things in the household and write down a list and story for archives. But they and the companion bird might appear in the next book?

Started the audiobook and didn't stop until it was finshed. What a magical ride.
Not the full 5 stars, cause I think I need to physically read it for that.

But DAMN, this story is beautiful and magical.
And I love the way it is told.

It’s a beautiful story, melancholy and powerful at the same time. It is a story about women and about power. A story of friendship and respect among unequal companions. I loved it and recommend it to people who like “the red lantern” or “hero”.
