sometimes i had troubles to follow the story but thats becouse english isn't my first language but I loved every part of the story

…or so i would presume they’d write. the most beautiful use of the english language, and the most beautiful sapphic (more than just wlw, in the spirit of sappho) love story i have yet knien in my eighteen short years. and while yes, no voice could do it justice, i must commend the attempt, not least because i’d struggle to read through tears.

I liked the connection between Red and Blue that developed through their letters. The way they felt for each other throughout the story was beautiful

Die Rezension einer befreundeten Leserin hat mich auf das Buch aufmerksam werden lassen und der Gedanke dahinter hat mich dann nicht mehr losgelassen. Das Audiobook hatte mich dann schnell im Griff!

„This is how you lose the time war“ ist die wohl purste Liebesgeschichte, die ich je gelesen habe. Es geht um zwei Agenten – Red und Blue – die einander in einem schier endlos wirkenden Krieg quer durch alle Zeiten und Kontinente bekämpfen. Es braucht Muße sich in die Welt der Protagonistinnen einzuleben, denn sie haben zwar gelegentlich menschliche Gestalt, ihre eigentliche Form ist aber eine andere, die teils vage angedeutet und beschrieben wird, im Grunde genommen aber nichts mit aus Liebesromanen Gewohntem zu tun hat. Allein schon die Tatsache, dass beide weiblich dargestellt werden, zeigt den unorthodoxen Zugang. Auf Wikipedia ist zu lesen, dass eine Verfilmung geplant und die Geschlechterrollen für die Autoren nicht diskutierbar ist. Eine herrliche Einstellung, finde ich, und sicherlich ein gefundenes Fressen für die nach „original content“ lechzende Hollywood-Community.

Wir finden Blue und Red zuerst in einer Art Wettstreit und verfolgen sie dann durch die Mongolei des Dschingis Khan bis hin zu englischen Teesalons – und das sind nur die Welten, die wir als Menschen nachvollziehen können. Durch ihren Briefwechsel kommen sie einander näher und die Bedrohung durch die eigenen Reihen wird zusehends realer. Es wird der Punkt erreicht, an dem beiden klar wird, was sie füreinander sind und empfinden. Hat diese Welt jedoch überhaupt einen Platz für sie und bedeutet dies einen Sieg oder eine Niederlage im Krieg der Zeiten?

Dieses Buch schreit förmlich nach Reread – schon allein wegen der Komplexität der Welten und des Schlusstwistes wegen. Der Einordnung in ein Genre widersetzt es sich – denn es ist sowohl Liebesgeschichte als auch Sci-Fi-Spionage-LGBTQ-Timetravelroman. Der Funke Konstruiertheit, der durch die Doppelautorenschaft sowieso im Raum steht, wird durch die Imagination der beiden mehr als wettgemacht. Es ist spannend zu sehen, was Anziehung ausmacht – fern aller Gendergrenzen. Insofern haben wir hier ein topaktuelles Werk und ein mutiges Schreibexperiment. Bitte drauf einlassen. Ich kann fix versprechen, dass es ein einzigartiges Leseabenteuer ist!
