Über diesen Titel
As he looked at life...
...surrounded by the trappings of success...
Austin wondered, is there anything else?
He made it to the top. As CEO of an asteroid mining company, Austin has accomplished everything he ever wanted in business. Now, he needs more. To get away he turns to a fantasy video game.
Is virtual reality the answer?
Should he pick, elf, gnome, caster, or swordsman?
He just wants peace and quiet, play as a dwarf, build a house, do some smithing and character building. His idea of the perfect fantasy game. Then he learns their secret.
Deceit hides in the shadows.
And the truth is all around.
Austin will need to level up.
If he gets caught, it means death. He’ll need help along the way. How can he convince anyone they’re slaves in a bigger game and stay under the radar? If Earth was a simulation and the game was real...
Who can he trust?
You’ll get hooked on this first book (of 11) in the Emerilia LitRPG series, because the characters grow and advance in the most believable of ways and the plot twists are fantastic. Any sufficiently advanced virtual reality makes it indistinguishable from reality.
Get it now.

My only problem was, that the narrator was trying to do a cockney (at least I think so) accent and it was pretty bad and took away from the immersion as it was hard not to concentrate on.
Other than that though, great book, good narration, can recommend!
Great for people who like to play video games and like fantasy

Would listen to the story again and will definitely listen to the next book.
Good story

There are a few plot conveniences and some scene switches happened too fast to notice but all in all it's definitely recommended! You won't waste your time!
Interesting story with a few holes

The book starts with a 20 minute exposition dump. Not to mention that Bob the gnom tells the exact same exposition 5 hours later again.
After that, we are treated to the excessively rich, tax dodging, protagonist faffing about in the game for the first few hours of the book. No reason for doing anything given. The lack of any goals is seriously bad writing. His biggest conflicts for most of the book are random monsters that just pop up, and his unwashed clothes.
He is not even interesting as a character. Every character is shallow as a puddle. So, no humor to smooth the storytelling.
The protagonist is also one of those that just gains new magic abilities without any reason, learns anything instantly, and finds rare artefacts without trying.
The basic premise of the story is showing the understanding of a child about how politics work. Every species is either all peaceful or all aggressive. Only humans get to have nuance and be special?
The speaker is good. No complaints there.
*Spoiler*
The aliens that control the humans send them equipped with swords and shields against civilizations that have spaceships. (Or at least I assume they have spaceships. We never get a description. But they are supposedly a threat to the civilization that genocided most humans across the galaxy.)
Tell me. What are fantasy knights supposed to do against an orbital bombardment?
Mindless junkfood
