Nice slice of life

Its a very straight forward story. A kind goblin becomes emperor and now he has to deal with stuff. Its all very competently written and there is not really much to critize.

Though it should be made clear what kind of book this is, bevor anyone starts listening. This is not a story about magic, romance or court intrique. I mean some of that stuff appears in the book but its never the focus. Its really just a story about a guy that has a good moral system and who talks with people. I personaly would have liked some more romance or fantasy aspects, but that is just a personal opinion.

So in conclusion: The story is alright.

This slice of life is nothing for people who enjoy plot driven books. We are meandering through a new emperors life and witness his struggle in reconciling being a good emperor with being a good man.
Which he is, his kindness, compassion and wit were a joy to behold.
The audiobook can be a bit difficult because of the many names. Kyle McCarley did a fantastic job in narrating though, so if said person was present and spoke I would immediately recognise their voice.
Sometimes I would struggle with understanding the political details, but Maia gently guided me along with his thoughts and emotions.
I can't wait to listen to it again. But probably alongside a copy of the book in my hand.

An enthralling read about a world of politics, scheming and alliances. The characters are interesting and the book underlines the importance and value of kindness and empathy.
