Audio bonus! Includes exclusive conversations with the authors!
From an acclaimed Harvard professor and one of Time’s most influential people, this paradigm-shifting audiobook shows how almost everything we think we know about aging is wrong, offers a front-row seat to the amazing global effort to slow, stop, and reverse aging, and calls listeners to consider a future where aging can be treated.
For decades, experts have believed that we are at the mercy of our genes and that natural damage to our genes - the kind that inevitably happens as we get older - makes us become sick and grow old.
But what if everything you think you know about aging is wrong? What if aging is a disease - and that disease is treatable?
In Lifespan, one of the world’s foremost experts on aging and genetics reveals a groundbreaking new theory that will forever change the way we think about why we age and what we can do about it. Aging isn’t immutable; we can have far more control over it than we realize. This eye-opening and provocative work takes us to the front lines of research that is pushing the boundaries on our perceived scientific limitations, revealing incredible breakthroughs - many from Dr. David Sinclair’s own lab - that demonstrate how we can slow down, or even reverse, the genetic clock. The key is activating newly discovered vitality genes - the decedents of an ancient survival circuit that is both the cause of aging and the key to reversing it. Dr. Sinclair shares the emerging technologies and simple lifestyle changes - such as intermittent fasting, cold exposure, and exercising with the right intensity - that have been shown to help lead to longer lives.
Lifespan provides a road map for taking charge of our own health destiny and a bold new vision for the future when humankind is able to live to be 100 years young.

©2019 David Sinclair (P)2019 Simon & Schuster AudioMinus 1 star because I felt the second half of the book became a little repetitive and less dense with information.
Being a renowned professor, we can assume Sinclair is intelligent and a great scientist. This book adds "trustworthy" and "realistic" to his traits, which is important for someone making the case that we could double the human lifespan in the next few decades. He is exactly the right kind of person to be leading these efforts.
Great primer on the modern health science

As a physicist, I'm not an expert on the topics he discusses, but his work seems to be very well researched. I have to admit I'm more curious about the future now that I know how much can potentially change for all of us and I am excited to see how humanity will deal with that change.
I came across this book by accident and am glad I took the time. Highly recommended!
Mind-opening

You are shown, through the author's own narration, what is basically a first-person view into the frontier of current aging research.
As a graduate student in the somewhat related field of biotechnology myself, I have not yet met any scientist who is as precise and open about the big vision behind his/her research as the author, David Sinclair, is.
He doesn't only reveal to the reader yet to be published results of his institute's top-notch biomedical studies, but also very personal details about his private life, which lead him to pursue this special line of research.
This way, you can get a quite genuine idea of what the author's motivating values are, which are pretty humanistic and relatable at their core.
Furthermore, you will be pushed to question your own values and assumptions about human lifespan, old age and the way we organize our society today.
Towards the end of the book, a convincing case is made, that the eventual defeat of aging (within the next few generations) is quite inevitable, given all advances currently still in the pipeline.
On that basis, the author involves you in an open discussion about the societal crossroads this will create in our near future, warning of many kinds of dangers, but ending in an ultimately optimistic and wholesome vision of human progress and prosperity.
If you are intrigued to find out what that vision is exactly, definitely go ahead and start listening ;-)
Plus: You'll get some very practical and research-based tips for living a longer and healthier life.
