Über diesen Titel

From the award winning author of Ash comes a gripping story of love and duty set in San Francisco's Chinatown during the 1950s.

Seventeen-year-old Lily Hu can't remember exactly when the question took root, but the answer was in full bloom the moment she and Kathleen Miller walked under the flashing neon sign of a lesbian bar called the Telegraph Club.

America in 1954 is not a safe place for two girls to fall in love, especially not in Chinatown. Red-Scare paranoia threatens everyone, including Chinese Americans like Lily. With deportation looming over her father - despite his hard-won citizenship - Lily and Kath risk everything to let their love see the light of day.

I loved this story! It was both emotional and a bit educational. Sometimes I would find the pacing to be a bit slow and the short changes of pov a bit disruptive but they still made sense and added to the story. I really enjoyed the authors writing. I was able to picture everything clearly and really emphasize with all the characters. I highly recommend this book :)

A beautiful story

this was such a good purchase. the immersive writing style made me finish it within a week, and the story is going to stick with me for a while. i particularly liked the attention to detail and historical accuracy (which is explained in the author's note). i would definitely recommend getting this book as an audiobook over a regular one especially if you're not chinese as the narrator reads out some lines that are written in chinese characters in the book and overall does a great job.

great story and audiobook
