Wow

👉🏻 Wow. Just wow. I think I will need a few days to process this book. It was a rollercoaster until the end and I had to shed a tear or two—no, honestly, I was actually kind of devastated because it gave me so many feels. With almost 630 pages or 21 hours of listening time, it transports you into the world of 2 wonderful characters.

💡 But first things first. In the forefront are 25-year-old Sutton Spencer, a literature student at NYU, and 28-year-old Charlotte Thompson, deputy major of New York, who is running for the House of Representatives.

Sutton is naïve, sometimes awkward and shy, but incredibly amiable. Throughout the story, her character develops the most for me, and that’s very visible. I wasn’t that fond of her at first, but eventually fell completely in love with her. Charlotte, on the other hand, is in the midst of her life and knows exactly what she wants, but when Sutton enters her life, she has to question her ideas about the future. I just loved them both in combination. I think they fit together so perfectly because of their differences—they complement each other.

I found the side characters annoying in parts, to be honest. I don’t know if that was intentional or just me. But except at the end, I didn’t find them driving the story. Overall, it doesn’t matter because the actions between Sutton and Charlotte drive the whole narrative anyway.

The story is a mix of friendship, romance, passion and politics. I liked the political part because it makes it stand out from other love stories. Of course, a story about “friends with benefits” screams conflict and drama, which never actually occurred up to a certain point. The characters never really had any miscommunication or arguments, and if they did, it was very short-lived. They base their entire relationship with each other on honesty and communication. In the end, I thought the author was breaking with that, which ultimately didn’t turn out that way.

♥️ I absolutely loved the ending—especially the epilogue. I wish it had been longer, and we had learned even more, but that’s complaining on a high level.
I can easily recommend this story heartily. Yes, the length of the book is daunting, but the plot is entertaining and draws you in. And... believe me, some action between the two is worth it. 😉

Adorable but foreseeable

This was a really adorable story albeit a little bit cheesy and foreseeable. I really enjoyed listening to it.

The narrator did a good job, although it annoyed me a bit that there was some notable inconsistency in the voices used for the characters.

Altogether it was an enjoyable read/listen.

One of my favorite audiobooks

"Those who wait" is a slow burning and very cute and sometimes also quite “hot” story that I can listen to over and over again. Lori Prince reads it so incredibly well and gives each character a unique voice, making it all the more enjoyable to listen to. And yes, this audiobook is really long, but it never gets boring to follow the story.

It was cute, a nice queer love story. The narration destroyed it at times, especially the male voices.

Eyerolling conversations at the beginning

I had to listen at 1.2 speed, because the narrator spoke that slow. The voices were sometimes really nerve racking. And the most problems the two leading Charakters had were from miscommunication. I don’t like that, but that’s my opinion. The middle and the end was good. It is a nice story, if only the communication wouldn’t be that bad.
