I didn't expect this book to go the way it did but especially because of that I loved every minute of it. It was surprising, heartwarming, strange, hopeful and just so different. I loved the vibe and the story and oh the characters, all of them, no execptions. Casey McQuiston did it again and wow did she do it well.

The first half of the book is consumed by the "mystery" of janes situation. And what is actually going on with her is very contrived.

The book shines with its general queerness and it's side characters. Autumn and Jane are servicable as leads, but I never really felt a great spark.

Casey McQuiston truly has a talent for writing people being most dramatically and messily in love and somehow manages to avoid them becoming silly or off-putting caricatures of clichés.
It’s refreshing to see queer people just existing as themselves and the value of chosen family portrayed and it not just being a consolation price.
I laughed, I cried for many reasons and I am now in an emotional hangover about this book. Thanks? I loved it.

I am still very emotional after going on a binge, but this book started as "relatable" and proceeded to make me feel things I never even dreamed of.

as an audiobook, I loved all the different variation in voices used. as a story, I might've cried more than expected.

Ich fand das Audiobook wirklich super! Ich langweilige mich schnell, aber der Mix aus Romantik und Detektiv-Geschichte mit ein bisschen Scifi ist genau richtig. Das Main Pairing ist sehr süß und alle Nebencharaktere sind interessant. Ich mag auch das Gefühl von Queer Found Family in der Großstadt.
Die Sprecherin ist richtig gut und alle Charaktere hören sich unterschiedlich an. Gefühle bringt sie auch super rüber. Definitiv eine Empfehlung!

I will be honest, I was sceptic when I first started this book. The premise just sounded very far fetched and I couldn't quite imagine it making up a tight, well rounded story.

I was proven wrong.

This is as far from a shallow, predictable typical run of the mill story as you can get.

It's deep, it's layered, it's rich and filled with a multitude of fantastic characters that wiggled their way into my heart effortlessly.

Furthermore it tapped into emotions and experiences that touched me as a queer person in a way that made me feel seen, understood and less alone. This was a gift I didn't expect and it moved me to tears on more than one occasion.

I genuinely enjoyed every second of this book.

And if you can easily recognize characters by their voices in an audiobook, there's nothing much I need to say about the narrator, do I? She did a brilliant job.

I wholeheartedly recommend!!

just read it, or listen to it. it's long and drawn out but if you pull through you will be rewareded. if you're looking for a queere sapphic romance with supernatural elements, music, punk, found family... this is it. this is your book.
