Newly arrived in New Fiddleham, New England, 1890, and in need of a job, Abigail Rook meets R. F. It sounds like siri reading at times as well as too whiny which is unfortunate because it is a very quirky and good story. The strange intonation, speech's speed and weird interpretation of Jackaby was also distracting.

the story is fun and well-written, and the voice artist does a good job differentiating between the characters. No "high literature", but doesn't try to be - it's a sdetective story with supernatural Holmes and clever Watson

Mir hat besonders die Sprecherin gefallen und wie sie die verschiedenen Charaktere deutlich gemacht hat.

die Welt ist sehr interessant und auch die Charaktere gefallen mir sehr gut. leider ist der 'plottwist' von vorne herein klar und auch der rote Hering stinkt 10 Meter gegen den Wind.
wer darüber hinweg sehen kann wird Spaß mit dem Buch haben

It’s a cute enough story but ends up being pretty predictable. The plot „twist“ at the end is very obvious and makes you wonder why the characters didn’t see it sooner. Jackaby is obnoxious at times and the main character pretty clueless. It feels like a lot if it could have been avoided if Jackaby deigned to share some of his insights. Doesn’t help that the voice actress really overacts some of the characters at times making the main character very whiny and Jackaby‘s intonations incredibly overdrawn which is jarring. Additionally it seems like the author didn’t really do much research into history which is especially apparent in the descriptions of the clothing (pockets sewn in the HEM of a skirt? Really?)
