Über diesen Titel
The sun is bloated, diseased, dying perhaps. Beneath its baneful light, Shadrapar, last of all cities, harbours fewer than 100,000 human souls. Built on the ruins of countless civilisations, Shadrapar is a museum, an asylum, a prison on a world that is ever more alien to humanity. Bearing witness to the desperate struggle for existence between life old and new is Stefan Advani: rebel, outlaw, survivor. This is his testament, an account of the journey that took him into the blazing desolation of the western deserts and into the labyrinths and caverns of the underworld. He will meet with monsters and mutants. The question is, which one of them will inherit this Earth?
Humanity clings to life on a dying Earth.
Epic, far-future science fiction from an award-winning author.

Having read many scifi books over the years, the cage of souls seemed to take a lot of ideas out of other greats but never actually investigating them on a deeper level. It felt more like a collection of surface ideas that were quickly abandoned or used so little that one may wonder why they were even introduced.
The book does have a nice setting with great potential but it also suffers from the same issue of not being explores too much. That is a pity as I desperately wanted to know more about this world and its mysteries.
The characters were one of the better aspects of the book with most of them being likable and realistic except one of the main antagonists which felt really shallow for how mysterious and smart he was set up to be.
All in all the book suffers from telling just a basic story and nothing more. Unlike the great scifi books that use the story as a medium to introduce the reader to some high stakes questions and deeper meanings and ideas, the cage of souls felt simple. It is easy to follow it's story though and I cannot say I had a bad time with it so it is really up to you if it's worth the read.
easy to digest but without much depth
