But this isn't Space City from those old science-fiction books. It's more like Hell City, built into and from a huge crater. There's a big silk canopy over it, feeding out atmosphere as we generate it, little by little, because we can't breathe the air here.

I guess it's a perfect place to live, if you want to live on Mars. At some point I must have wanted to live on Mars, because here I am. The money was supposed to be good, and how else was a working Joe like me going to get off-planet exactly? But I remember the videos they showed us - guys, not even in suits, watching robots and bees and Bioforms doing all the work - and they didn't quite get it right.

This book is a sequel of Dogs of War. I feel it must be hard to follow or understand the background without reading the Dogs of War først. Both books are amazing. Even though Bear Head is a sequel, there are so many new twist and ideas formed and nicely told that it is a joy to follow. Fast, never boring. Sometimes I needed to concentrate to follow the action. I also love the span of language Tchaikovsky uses, really fun to listen to. Some expressions are masterpieces. As always Tchaikowsky paints the characters with fast and precise strokes and the voices match the characters perfectly. It is building directly on the Dogs of War and is even overtowering it. Some Ideas from the first book are now further sculpted out and developed to the next step.
I am realt happy to have read this book and do wait for the next book from the author to come. Tchaikovsky is at the moment the most advance SF author I have read so far. No blind laser shooting, no repeating soldier slang but conscious mind boggling on many different levels.

Continues the dystopic scenario created in Dogs of War and puts the dilemma to a whole new level. Touches on moral and philosophical questions that also have been pondered by characters from other books (Children of Time) and does not fail to entertain.

Angemessene Weiterführung der Welt aus "Im Krieg". Wir treffen wieder die Bärin Honey und Bees, die Jahrzehnte später in einer Welt um ihr Daseinsrecht kämpfen müssen, die einen Rollback der Rechte der Bioformen versucht. Als Bonus ein kaum verfremdeter Donald Trump als Politiker...

What started in the last book just continued in this one. The bear character is simply overpowered. Able to traverse any obstacle and hack every system.

It didn't bring anything new to the table compared to the first book, and non-human bioforms were less of a focus.

I'm not sure if it was intentional, but the main villain was basically Donald Trump. It's a great character to hate, but didn't make the rest of the book more enjoyable.
