One of the very best Horus Heresy has to offer.

Perfect. Made me love 2 of my least favourite primarchs. Also Kharn goodness and his Argel Tal bromance, Lothara etc. Must read.

Great book that left me disappointed in the end.

First things first - this might be one of the best books within the series. The fate of Angron, the anger he feels and his reasons for being the way he is are thematically interesting and told in a very compelling way. The brotherhood between Kharn and Argel Tal is fun to follow and the book has so much gore and bloody battles, the final one being an especially long and gory account, that any Horus Heresy/Warhammer fan will have a blast reading it (or listening to it).
HOWEVER! (Spoilers for this next part, if you are already familiar with the fates of the primarchs, Erebus and Kor Phaeron you can read this)

The description says "a primarch will fall". Well, he doesn´t, none of them does. Angrons story seems to be heading to an inevitable conclusion in this book and it suffers heavily from not being able to kill him off. Guilliman just retreats, Angron becomes a demon and that is that. Not even the satisfaction of seeing Erebus hacked to death by Kharn is given to the reader. And that really leads to this book failing to have a satisfactory conclusion in my eyes. Now of course the blame for this lies more on GW/Black Library than on Mr. Dembski-Bowden. They have the tabletop game to think of and the other, upcoming 26 books in the series. And it is not like this is the first time either; horrific though it was, how many TRULY important characters died at Istvaan? Please don´t get me wrong, I enjoyed this audiobook a lot - again, except for what I just talked about it might be my favorite book so far - however I find myself being really annoyed for the first time with this series inability to break free from the bonds of the story-boundaries and having to cater to the whims of the brand. GW wouldn´t just give away the chance to bring any primarch back, safe maybe Sanguinius. And that leads to me feeling a bit burned out with these books, I don´t have the time to listen to 26 more of these knowing that little and less will be of consequence and it all can be summed up with "Horus dies at Terra".

Bisher bestes Buch der Horus Heresy Reihe

Das Buch, das sich um die World Eaters dreht, fängt die Wucht und Heftigkeit die man von diesem Orden erwarten kann hervorragend ein.
