Adrian Tchaikovksy's critically acclaimed stand-alone novel Children of Time is the epic story of humanity's battle for survival on a terraformed planet.

Who will inherit this new Earth?

The last remnants of the human race left a dying Earth, desperate to find a new home among the stars. Following in the footsteps of their ancestors, they discover the greatest treasure of the past age - a world terraformed and prepared for human life.

But all is not right in this new Eden. In the long years since the planet was abandoned, the work of its architects has borne disastrous fruit. The planet is not waiting for them pristine and unoccupied. New masters have turned it from a refuge into mankind's worst nightmare.

Now two civilizations are on a collision course, both testing the boundaries of what they will do to survive. As the fate of humanity hangs in the balance, who are the true heirs of this new Earth?

" Children of Time is a joy from start to finish. Entertaining, smart, surprising and unexpectedly human." (Patrick Ness)

As much as I loved the concept and premisse of the story, I disliked some of the concepts.
Without getting too deep into spoilers, a lot of the story deals with the passage of time and how it is percieved differently from differwnt perspectives.
As interesting as that may sound it brings a problem with it. It is hard to get attached to characters when suddenly a hundred years pass and almost everyone you "knew" is no longer alive.
Some of the perspectives are also not the most engaging or deal with sci-fi topics. You'll know what I mean when you read the book.

Great concept, meh execution

The speaker was good and the story was simply captivating! I thoroughly enjoyed the read.

Fascinating story

Without it being a literary masterwork children of time manages to present an extremely compelling story that spans solar systems and ages, weaving a narrative that, even though fragmented, it never fails to seemlessly pick up where it previously left off. Humanity's desperation to fight a new home clashes against their own long forgotten creations in ways that will have the reader question ideals and morals as well as whom they are rooting for.

fresh take on first contact story

Das letzte Drittel könnte etwas mehr Inhalt vertragen, vielleicht wären zwei Bücher möglich gewesen. Der Sprecher hat gute Arbeit geleistet

This was Adrian Tchaikovsky’s first novel for me and I instantly fell in love. Intelligent, incredibly well-written and entertaining there is nothing to add or take away in this true masterpiece of modern science fiction.
Wonderful reading by Mel Hudson, bringing this piece of art truly to life.
